Tim.I note that the tariff for Swiss Park Hotel from Oct 2008 to Nov 2009 has increased from B1188 for a Superior single to B1559(an increase of 31%) and from B1307 for a Superior double to B1559(an increase of 19%).Are the amount of these increases broadly typical of most Bangkok hotels?If so I suppose the main reason is the current inflation rate of about 10% although this does not justify increases 2 to 3 times the rate of inflation.Perhaps the relatively large increase for Swiss Park is in part due to the realisation by management that Swiss Park has been something of a bargain but it is now time to bring it more into line with comparable hotels?In any event it would seem that there are going to be very substantial Hotel tariff increases later this year and next year.I would be interested to read your thoughts on the subject,

Seems evident accross the board. Just booked the Grand Pres for my wife and the rate has increased by 200 Baht from April and a massive 600 Baht from March, for the same room.
I have also noticed that some hotels are trying to get you to pay in your local currency on your card and then screwing you on the exchange rate.....

Yes I was a little shocked by the increase of The Swiss Park. Also notably Citi Chic has increased from 2,060 to 2,420 Baht.
I agree with you that maybe the Swiss Park has found out that they have the a bargain for the last 2-3 years.
Another reason having spoken to both hotels is the large increase of all goods and they have had to increase the rates more than double to compensate inflation and the increase in buying goods etc. Hotels do generally increase 10-13% per year and now inflation is into double figures, so they are adding some more incase.
I did advise the hotels concerned that they might have increased the rates too much and they might suffer, although they do doubt it.
Sukhumvit hotels have seemed to increase the most out of the hotels. Right now I am inspecting the Hip Hotel located on Ratchadpisek road. It may be away from the Nana/Cowboy strip, but is incredible value for money. I think if sukhumvit hotels continue to increase at this rate, it may drive the customers elsewhere.
I am staying in a Cool Studio room with massive bathtub for 2 people. Costs around 1,800 Baht per night. Guest friendly. 5 mins from Huay Kwang Mrt.
This hotel would be 2300-2500 Baht per night on Sukhumvit. Only downside is u must pay for internet.
30 mins 100 Baht, 60 Mins 180 Baht, 1 day 400, multiple logins allowed.

Ratchadapisek is terrible... try to get a taxi to Sukhumvit... virtually impossible.
We tried it from the Swissotel and after three attempts resorted to the MRT.

Tim,perhaps the confidence of Swiss Park`s management that their tariff increases wont adversly effect business is not misplaced when one sees that the Manhattan,probably their main competition,has increased the Superior single rate by 38% from B1307 to B1799,and the double rate by 32% from B1544 to B2038.
