I checked out www.hotelscombined.com and some of the hotels are discounting after the BKK fiasco.
Salil is about 1490 with agoda plus 7% tax.
Still a good rate though.

Good hotel. Although its not 1490 Baht plus 7% at Agoda.
Its more like 1490 Baht plus 16%.
Approx 41Usd + 7 Usd tax and service.

Agoda quote their booking prices in USD.
If your credit card’s currency is not in USD, you will not be charged in USD. Instead they will convert to your local currency, adding another 3% to 5% to the total cost in the process.
Beware of what may initially look like bargains on Agoda.
Glad to hear someone else shares my concerns about lady drink prices, Dr Love. I spend the bulk of my trips in Phuket, where the standard lady drink price in a bar is now 150 Baht. 170 Baht and 200 Baht lady drink prices are not uncommon, especially in Soi Tiger.

Have you guys all forgotten Thai Free Market 101?
If there are fewer customers, which of the following is the BEST strategy:
a) compete for business by lowering prices
b) rely on the generosity and tendency toward gullibility of the average farang (i.e. whine, and complain about how we need to support our ailing parents, hoping for big tips).
c) raise prices to make up the shortfall
...
if you said (c), go to the head of the class, maybe run for office...

Precision Reservations and Planet Holiday both became part of Agoda.
Not sure either of these brands exist anymore. Only Agoda.

Amari Boulevard has great prices now on the internet. I have seen a room for 2999 baht. And it seems they offer free upgrade now. I love that place as it has a top location and super friendly staff

They also charge a 1000 baht joiner fee, and the rooms are nothing special. I think I was the only guest that wasn't an arab. I don't mind, but they put me in room 911 (honest).
Women in burkas were gossiping a storm in the tiny crowded elevator while I was taking a Rainbow girl up to my room.

Le Finix shows some great prepaid bargains at 1350, but I booked CitiChic for New Years for 2000.
