I have stayed at this hotel many times, as well as Nana,Majestic Suites,Nanatai and others. Despite it's business-like feeling, it is girl friendly if you book a double.
What's good about it ? Besides the free access to the 25m outdoor pool 6 floors up and associated gym, jogging track and tennis courts, it's 5 minutes walk to Chong Nonsi BTS and 10 minutes to Silom Post Office,Bankok Bank Head Office and another 3 minutes to Patpong.
Next door is an expat supermarket, with a small pharmacy that seems to have everything necessary,and a low price locals style foodcourt
7/11 is also 5 minutes away. And the rooms are under $50.
At the breakfast buffet, I have seen punters with partners only a couple of times. So this place is certainly off the map amongst the monger fraternity. But if you want a place away from the touts and the husslers with a great pool 15 minutes from Lumpini Park this is it.

Now Base @Silom. Can't keep up with the name changes.
Would think most websites have the Room@Silom name on their site.
Prices start from 1,361 Baht for a Deluxe room to 2,231 Baht for an Exec Suite.

The pool and fitness centre are across in the Trinity 3 complex and not in the hotel. They are free for hotel guests and a short walk. Also, the pool and gym facilities are open 7-9 M-F and 10-8 (or so) on weekends. No late night skinny dipping here.
The are just about done with major renovations in the lobby but still working on some exterior things which can make it a little noisy.
A new place opened up a few months back just down the soi closer to the Chong Nonsi BTS call The Heritage. Brand new, has a small but nice pool on the top, looks like it is doing good business and the rates are ok.

At The Base hotel, the pool is across the lane and through a busy lobby, so you won't be strolling through with your tilac wrapped in a towel.Some decorum is required in this hotel. For those of us who need daily exercise a big pool is a necessity.
I have watched the Heritage going up. Have a close look at the exercise room photo to see a shonky exercycle, probably secondhand. You won't get a workout in there. The pool looks romantic, though. They are quoting 'nett' when they probably mean gross, and on one tariff chart the difference between with or without breakfast is 700 baht.
In Bangkok it has always been hard to beat the rate at the Nana, hence it's always full. But the pool is in shadow mid afternoon and the chemical block that the attendant throws in every morning puts me off.

This is a rerun from a few years back, but I still think it is a pretty good room for an In-House city break:
I had the room there on the floor where you have the Fitness centre, Thai restaurant and Swimmingpool. I think it's 6th floor. I had the room ( 604) immediately next to both the fitness centre and the exit to the outdoor pool and the outdoor Restaurant. The room is OK, nothing exceptional but kingsize bed and clean, but the location is terrific for an inhouse "give yourself a treat and break'-type of course:
1) You nip accross to the Fitness centre - 5 meters- and make yourself feel real good because you work out
2) You walk 5 meters back to the room (no noise problems in any direction) for a shower with/TGF.
3) You then go relaxing at the the pool - 15 meters - w/TGF before dinner
4) You go 15 meters back into the hotel corridor and 5 meters to the room to get dressed for dinner. Optional intimate session with TGF after taking of swimming costumes but before getting dressed
5) You go 5 meters to exit and 10 meters to the table at the outdoor Thai Restaurant and enjoy a really good meal with view over Sukumvit, together with TGF. As she is TGF she will laugh at your jokes to make you feel good and poor more beer into your glass if emty.
6) You go back to your room (for those of you who have good memory and aptitude for numbers you will by now have figured out it make 15 meters.
7) You watch inhouse Video (optional - I watched Planet of The Apes) whilst TGF is readying herself in the bath room, for the night.
8) Go to bed with TGF and she insists on laying with her head on your shoulder because "I love you so mut"
9) Sex with TGF in all ways you like.
10) Good night
All-in-all 80 meters course inside your hotel with a with wide variety of activites which all stimulates, relaxes,satisfies and enhances your sense of wellbeing.
I had to book doubble room at that time.
Room 604 at Amari Boulevard is a good location for a short term break from the hustle and bustle of BKK city.
