I've been a regular at JW Marriott for years but am now looking for a little less expensive alternative with (almost) similar quality. I usually stay 50+ nights per year. The things I like most about the JW Marriott are the exec lounge and the generally professional service of the staff. I spend a lot of time in the Silom area and am wondering if anyone has any recent experiences at the Dusit Thani? And... how does it compare? Is it girl friendly now? I know that some years ago it wasn't (girls had to register and joiner fee charged). Also am wondering if any member of this board is a Dusit Gold member (it's paid membership... similar to Marriott Gold Thailand.... which allows for discounts on rooms and restaurants etc) and if so.... experiences?

Billgreen678, I'm not exactly answering your quetion but suggest you consider the Montien. Good location based on your requirement, nice rooms, great business center and very good service. When I made my second visit a month after my first the manager greeted me as I came in by name. Now, I realize that they had my flight arrival time etc. from by booking but it was the effort she put into it. She also greeted me personally on my first visit. On second visit I went to the business center again and was immediately greeted by the receptionist who reminded me that she helped me with a wireless issue on my last visit. After I checked into my room, maybe 10 minutes later a supervisor came up to be sure my room was ok and met my needs. All that and a price that is far less than JW or the Dusit. No, I don't get a commission.

I don't know about the Dusit, but in my experience the Montien these days doesn't really seem to want the trade from those of us who import sleeping partners. Whereas the JW Marriott couldnt be more accommodating. For example, on my last visit to the JW, I asked the friendly doorman late at night to check the ID of a certain young Soi Cowboy lady to ensure that she was 18+....only to be the rather astonished on being told that she was actually 30+ ! It seems that for all the years I have resided in the East, I still can't correctly guess age.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. Yes I agree... no question about JW's friendliness. I anticipate withdrawal symptoms! Maybe I'll try out and do a road test on both Montien and Dusit Thani on one of my next visits. I may also try the Marriott Courtyard on Rajadamri which is a BTS stop away from Silom.

The Montien is great for the money- and I used to stay there twice a year- but they are not girl friendly- and even have guard at newer wing elevator- I have always considered Dusit- but it is a hike to BTS and no cheaper than JWM.

I guess 'hikes' from all three hotels to the nearest BTS is equally far. Perhaps even Montien is further from Sala Daeng than Dusit or JW from Nana/Ploenchitt.

I stayed at the Courtyard Marriott on Rajdamri on my last visit (July 08). By all accounts an excellent hotel - I'd put it on par with most Marriott hotels. It's definitely more business oriented - less "resort" features you might find in a regular Marriott, but still has a nice pool, gym & sauna. Rooms are spacious and excellently appointed (very modern too). This hotel is located at the end of the soi, and is about a 10 minute stroll to the BTS. One downside, I couldn't find a convenience store on the hotel's soi, instead had to walk around the corner past Erawan shrine to the shopping centre there - a fair distance and not good if you need late night beer or cigarettes etc.
