Stayed here in November/December this year for a few days. They gave me a room on the back side and I had a full view on the construction site. Looks like the building won’t be finished for a long time.
I tried it for one day and then I moved to a room on the front. The noise of the construction started round 8 in the morning and that's too early for me. The room on the front was fine.
It's a cheap hotel with a good breakfast. My girl from Angel Witch was a little bit disappointed with the hotel. Walking from the elevator to my room she said: "this is a shitty hotel". Had to laugh, I loved her for her honesty. I wouldn’t put it that hard.

Cheers

I will be staying here in January and the hotel have informed me,even though I wanted a king size bed, that only two single beds are available for this period due to high demand.
Oh well looks like I will have to push the two beds together.

Does she have a better room and breakfast at home?

No, she probably lives in a bigger dump.

She was mainly referring to the hallway which does look terrible with the old stained carpet. Compared to lobby area this forms quite a contrast.

I would stay here again and so would she.

Yes, the hallway is drab.
A few more potted plants or bright paintings on the wall would enliven the area.
We can do nothing more than suggest.
Although, I plan to stay else where everytime but at the end land up staying there only.
Cheers

On the recommendation of Barrafish I stayed at the Manhattan last month and was quite happy. Girl friendly, which to me is more important that plush carpet in the hallways. Breakfast was fine, and I enjoyed being able to sit on the sofa and read the paper. Sofas and papers on every floor. Pool area a bit small and a couple of early risers beat me to the sunny side every morning. I even contemplated sleeping on the deck chair by the pool overnight just to see the looks on their faces when they came to the pool in the morning. Manhattan handy to everything.

Thanks for all the info guys. Just booked up for early March using the link that mm3 posted, just under 1,000 baht a night.
I stayed at The Federal last month. Very girl friendly, but really showing it's age now. The main thing though, was that it was clean. I was going to stay there again when I saw this thread, and thought that it may be better, plus closer to the action. Breakfast included is also a bonus.

I had a very similar experience. I tried to impress a girl who I really liked. Wined her and diner her and gave her a classy night out and then went to Manhattan and her face dropped. She said hotel is very run down for Thai standards....maybe okay for cheap charlie farangs. Oh dear,.,.....never again!

After u wine her and dine her she might be expecting that you will be putting up in The Oriental. Since we pay the girlsfor their services I think they should be satisfied with where ever we stay. The girls mostly live in dormitories with ten girls to a single loo at times.
May be she can sponsor our stay in a better hotel. LOL. Well, I stay in Manhattan none of the girls ever complained. Had them from Eden, Soi 33, Soi Cowboy, Soi 7 beer garden. As it is girl friendly, has a great breakfast and I stay with my money I would like to stay there again. Anyways............................. Cheers

Hi people

Update needed!.

I received a confirmation voucher for my reservation at the Manhattan and it says my room is on the "Thomas Cook Thailand" block of rooms.

Am I lucky or totally screwed up?

I stayed in this hotel 2 years ago. I found a few roaches in the room the first day, but I sprayed a whole can of insecticide, left a tip to the maid every morning and I didn't see any more of them. Everything else was OK. But 2 years is a long time...I hope the overall quality of the hotel hasn't declined.

Thanks for your info in advance.
