i am getting ready to move to thailand and for the first couple of months i plan to be loose and fancy free and not have a permanent residence (apt). will probably spend a week or two in bkk and am not familiar with any ultra budget hotels, maybe sukh area - even the high sois on the sky train. was hoping someone might have some feedback on decent places with weekly rates that are 500b or less per day. thnx

Miami Hotel, on Sukhumvit 13, offers rooms with AC for 600 baht. A bit run down, but if you won't spend much time there in the daytime it should be ok. It's guestfriendly and not far from the action. I'm sure you can negotiate the price down to 500 baht/day for a two-week-stay.

If you want to live the 'tortured writer' lifestyle, the Atlanta on Suk 2 is great at about 500/night (less with fan only). They have the best menu in their restaurant, and a LOT of atmosphere (look on the web).
They are definitely NOT guest friendly, though: big sign in the lobby : 'No Prostitutes'

I stayed at Atlanta twice. Awful and awful. The pool had an oil slick floating on top, the rooms had chewed away doors, poorhouse furniture, damp and clotted walls that enclosed a space as miserable and cramped and bare as any I saw in Hong Kong's infamous CK.
Yes, I'm verbose but why anyone would recommend that hole when there so much better out there is beyond me.

I stayed in The Miami in 1979 and it was rundown then as i remember.
I cannot recall the price.
Spend a few hundred baht more and get a lot more would be my advice.

500 baht per night weekly rate in lower Sukhumvit: name another.
While the rooms vary, the Atlanta has a certain history and ambiance. I'll admit I only stayed there once, a long time ago, but it just felt, well, interesting.
I don't have to worry about finding a 500 baht room anymore, so I'd have a LOT more to choose from, but I don't know many other WEEKLY places in the same category, in Sukhumvit, for the same money...

soi 4, 500 bht/night...the swan inn..some cable tv, A.C.&fan, maid service..guest friendly..much nicer than the Happy inn which is right across the street..happy in 450bht/night...no cable, A.C. is garbage...after three nights of bringing nana disco ladies back with me they started only giving me only 1 towel..I got the message and never went back

Many small places will be hapy to cop 12-15000bt a month from you in Sukhumvit, Street lodge on soi 2, probably Narrys or Business in in the cul de sac near Ambassador, down soi 8 Promenade or Premier, the Honey on soi 19 past robinsons to name a few -even Nana do a monthly discount of around 15% I think, which would get the room down to 7-800 + breakfast.
