I noticed how everyone loves Solitaire. But no one mentioned something important: It is quite far from Sukumvit! Imagine it starts to rain. Imagine you walk home with a girl you met at Nana. Imagine you leave your nice Solitaire A/C Room and by the time you reach the Nana BTS, you are drenched in sweat.
It looks like it would take a good 10 min walk from Solitaire to Sukumvit.
That's not convenient at all.

Thai Girls and walking are mutually exclusive! On my last stay there a few weeks back, I had a late night drink with my recently reacquainted TG at the BED Supper Club which is probably less than 120M from Solitaire, my TG still wanted to get a Taxi!!!
It is a fair way back but worth it, they have an electric Tuk Tuk to take you to the main road, you can also call it from the main road to pick you. I believe it only operates till about 9pm.
From Nana on the way back, the Taxi fare is so small my TG often pays it for me!!!

Solitaire runs an electric powered buggy (seats 3 on either side, unless you're with Hzink). runs from morning to 6pm. Taxis to sukumvit 35-50 baht max. Cut throught the carpark opposite the ambassador its a shortcut that takes you to soi7 beergarden and even on to soi5 gullivers. Dont be a lazy prick its a nice walk, take in the bars with hostesses sitting outside that have sprouted up on soi 11.

a) They have 'taxis' in this country (as Doc Love pointed out, must be something new) - and they are very cheap.
b) If you are concerned about hurting your little footsies from walking too far, check into the Nana Hotel, or Omni Tower.
c) If you can't afford the $1 for the taxi, you may be on the wrong trip.
d) Tuk Tuks are fun, though 'different' - though last time we tuk-tuk'd across town in search of a bar/restaurant with six of us crammed into the back. It was fun, and it was raining, and my life flashed in front of my eyes

Guys,
I walk about 5 miles every day at home with the doggie. Like ilovethailand one thing I do not love about Thailand is walking in the heat. Not laziness, or fear of hurting my big tootsies. If I brought the doggie to Thailand I think he would agree with me.

The advantage of getting a hotel in the Nana area is that we can go out the door and walk to the action. If we have to take a taxi to the action, we might as well stay another 1/2 a mile away.
I like the convenience of being able to go outside and walk to foodland, buy some stuff, then walk back. I like the convenience of not having to rely on tricky rapacious cabs or put up with negotiating with them (Soi 11 cabs are the worst!!). I'd like to cut them out of the equation.
And what if you met a girl at NEP, its faster to walk across the street with her then take a taxi since the traffic is so bad and there are 1 way streets everywhere. This is just my opinion. Maybe some of you love to take cabs cuz you can cool down with their A/C so that can be an advantage. Solitaire competes with the Westin, Sheraton, and Landmark. Some people say location is the most important thing in a hotel.
