You are right and actually I still say that about Zantika onf Friday and Saturday nights. I drove by there last night and the traffic caused by the entrance was amazing.
You know me I would much rather grab a table or spot where I can hang out with my mates and lady watch. Plus it seems as thought the girl to guy ratio at bars such as Slim is not in our favor as of late.
Anyway, hope to see you soon. Give me a buzz as to where and when you are hanging out.

Dropped by at SLIM/FLIX a couple of days ago in the always uplifting company of pdbhobs. After the obligatory identity check (wtf is up with that in this town?) we entered the premises of the adjoining clubs. Both clubs are actually connected on the inside and you can freely walk from ones side to the other.
To the right a more loungy-looking area playing Thai music: just people sitting it couches enjoying their bottles. This area would be considered the chill-out area in European clubs if it wasn’t for the Thai rock music. It seemed more a place where one would expect some Kruder und Dorfmeister, Thievery Corporation or Café Del Mar music. Then again, this is Thailand.
Which became also painfully apparent in the hip-hop room next door. In the name of Dionysos and all his disciples, why do Thai clubs have NO dance floor? This room was packed with fun-loving peeps, the music was pumping, but people are standing around small tables with their bottles. The only guy going for it was the freaking DJ. Most likely because he had place to move. One could sense that people were willing to shake, but where?
Walked through to FLIX where the music was more to my taste: a rather tasteful mix of progressive and disco house. Nothing to high standard, but enjoyable. (Except for the last 30 minutes before closing when the DJ quite abruptly switched from disco-house to dreadful anthem-trance. A DJ who dares such things deserves to be anally penetrated with live hedgehog for 2 consecutive days.)
There was more room here as well and people seemed to enjoy the extra space – as quite a few were shaking their ass off. -amongst others some cuties.
Which brings me to the most important issue of all: the amount of talent. Granted - this was only my first visit and it was a weekday, but the amount of stunners was mediocre at best. Nothing comparable with places like Q, CM2 or Mystique. Maybe just a bad night.
In any case, I am strongly considering making this my regular hang out as I live a stones throw from RCA. There is already a small elbow-indent at the bar in Flix. I intend to deepen it.
A bottle of Black is 1500 without mixers.
My daily bread, a white Russian, goes at 150 a pop.
A beer is 100.

Went to Slim last month with some friends. I think this is the place for the real "young crowd". The music is just just too loud for this old man. Could not hear a thing from any of the girls we met there. I did see a few "stunners", but instinctly knew they were "good" girls and would take a long time, if at all, to "score" with them. For me, it was a waste of time because I am on a tight schedule and every night I am doing the BKK clubbing thing, I need to come home with somebody. CM2 was better for true "punters". Slim and most clubs on RCA are true "night clubs" for the young crowd.

I found out a couple of days ago that technically a club cannot have a dance floor unless it is part of a hotel in Thailand. Yes there are a few small exceptions but this is the law.
I cannot understand it myself.

Sweet Jesus! What is the logic behind that? People go to a disco to dance, like you go to mall to shop, right?
Its like a law that forbids you to buy stuff in Carrefour.
This country is just weird- in a very hypocrite and counter-productive kind of way.

What might be considered a crime in Ibiza is almost a pleasant change here. I mean 95% of places either play hip hop (and the same 20 hip hop songs - black eyed peas ughhh!) or Thai music (which I reckon consists of variations of 3 songs - a linkin park one, a pop/rock one and a slow one.)
And some other points...
1. There is no possibility of making SLIM your regular spot at weekends - the queue is 200 yards long to just get in.
2. Talent. Comparing Slim with CM2 is hardly fair but I have to agree that the male/female ratio is not as good in RCA as other places. BTW try Santika mid week for gorgeous babes... and lots of them.
3. There are 4 different types of club licenses but only one that permits dancing - hence the tables.
4. That is the 3rd different price I have seen for Black. Maybe they charge different prices? Or maybe we are too disinterested to read the bill properly? Either way it is hardly expensive.

Aaaah, the good old days. Reminds me of when we booed Fat Boy Slim of the terrace at Space for playing 3 of his own records consecutively. To quote Morrissey:”Hang the DJ!”
Anyway. It should be considered a crime everywhere. It is exactly because the music in all the other places is monotonous that this might seem as a “pleasant change”, but any self-respecting DJ should see when his crowd abruptly stops dancing.

I am not much of a hip hop man, but I was pleasantly surprised by the selection of underground records and smooth mixing at Mystique on several occasions.

Why would one forbid dance floors of all things in clubs? Smoking, nowthat I would understand, but dancing? What in the Lords name is that?

Are there even laws in IBIZA to break..lol. I will have to re-check that on my third trip in July.
Hyper.....Ah Space, my kinda place, one that opens up at 0730 Sunday Morning, and stays open till 0730 monday morning.
Bangkok could actually get better if they had some places like that.

A total off topic anecdote regarding that.
We were driving from Manumission to Space one morning at about 7AM. 5 grown men in a tiny Fiat Punto. Spaced out of our heads. As usual there wasn’t much we hadn’t snorted/swallowed/inhaled that night. Each of us has pockets full with more joyous substances. On the way to Playa D’en Bossa: a roadblock. f***!
The cops pull us over; look at us, tell the driver to do an…alcohol test. He blows in the bag: 0% alcohol of course. Nobody drinks anything but water at Privilege

After two seasons bartending at Space I have much more stories if you get me pissed one night  Most of them to shocking to be told by daylight.

You got that right. Damn conservative, hypocrite, two-faced bastards.
I just can’t get over the fact that Bangkok is worldwide know as one of *the* party cities in the world, but that there is a strictly enforced 1AM closing hour in the clubs. Clubs without dance floors.
