It hasn't gone under yet so profit must be made somewhere along the chain. I'm not sure why either. Bed supperclub is the most overrated thing in BKK. I went during "model" night and it just plain sucked. Lots of farang model wannabes milling around and some bodybuilder douchebag on stage flexing to a horrible DJ mix. It would have been allright if the girls were good but they weren't.

That's a joke; most of the those people are the dregs of modelling; they are the ones who ruined the market with cut price rates. The hot Thai models are not going there for the most part!
I suspect that some modelling agency (probably one of the trash ones that brings in Russians/that country where Borat is from) has done some deal so they have a core of models there. Besides which most of the top female models wouldn't be old enough to get in anyway.
I think they are probably making money in cash accounting terms, but when you take into account the sunk cost of building that thing; the franchise fee and so on; the only way to make money would be to find some sucker to buy a share and get it back that way....they may have managed to do that by now. Indeed it is an institution but strictly for the tourist/embassy crowd on a night out; not exactly a gem of the bangkok night life scene.
And what is with their poncy music? At least they could put on Ed Rush and Optical or something a little more exciting.

Design was done as a kind of 'favour' and marketing strategy of the design office. Building is not that expensive. Lease is low on the land and....... do you suggest they pay a franchise fee??? LOL!!

I'm surprised by the talk of franchising and agreements made before opening etc I had heard they just copied it and are now in conflict.
Went to Models Night 2 weeks ago I think. There were 2 tables of girls that were models and the rest were the usual crowd. You know what that means. They are doing models nights at Flix, RCA now - anyone got any good reports?

The only report I have is that Flix and Slim have been going downhill for quite some time now too. Guy to girl ratio isn't good at all anymore and the girls that I see there are usually the same ones i've seen before.

Borat is a very nice.
I don't know how to explain the fee they paid, but for sure they paid a fairly large fee to the ppl who did the original Bed in Holland or somewhere; they absolutely did not just copy it unathorised like.
I think that was their first mistake; it isn't like the building is anything special to design and it is horribly inefficient use of the space. And it looks friggin ugly from below the way they did it.
I say this having seen the business plan they were trying to hawke a share in the business with. Being upstanding dodgy farang we cannot be sure they weren't lying. But I trust them enough that given the vast errors in other parts of their plan, that they would not have lied about the payment to Holland.

Well ok, a dutchie is not a dutch, but it sounds like it could be.

In average you are right. Have heard from 'very reliable' sources that their average turnover, which includes food!, is around 9.000.000 per month.

It is possible they are running that high, although this is perhaps a fraction higher than what I would have guessed... some nights I go there they only have like 50 people eating... but no doubt their big nights help make some of that back.
Based on usual high end/semi high end restaurant numbers AFAIK food makes up around 30-35% of the sale price....so that's like 2.7m... although for bed it may be lower since they do cover charges and if I remember right their liquor menu is not cheap...let's assume 25%

Then staff... the few senior staff are the only ones of great cost... at a guess I'd say the bill for DJs a month assuming they need on average 4 a night is 240k a month... servers about 10 of them at 6k a month 60k 10 hands/grunts in the kitchen/maids at 6k a month 60k plus the senior 2 chefs say 100k each 200k plus a manager to run the thing another 80k and security another 20k a month... so that's 660k in labour
The decorations don't come cheap; I am guessing maybe they spend 300k a month in uniforms and things to tart the place up.
What else... power, water, police, upkeep; I'd guess maybe 100k a month
Rent of the site... well they don't own it, so that's probably prime land, at a guess maybe 100k a month?
Accountants, and the like...another 100k..
That's well less than 4m; if they are really making 5m a month...well that would pay back their investment in well quick time; I think they were valuing the business at about 100m of investment in that building and stuff....
And that's why I don't really believe the 9m; I could see it for a month but I've been there (sadly) and never really seen that many people; to be doing 9m, they would need to be pulling in 300k a day; that's like (since they have a capacity of about 200 ppl) everyone spending 1.5k each and they have 200 ppl there every night.....hmmm....possible but I've just seen it so empty so many times I am really wondering about this....
Still I am amazed it lasted this long; I really underestimated the power of the expat and tourist market here. If their target was hi so Thais (like say Taurus) it would have gone under a while back.
