Here in CM for a couple days... certainly not enough time to get to know the local scene well but get a flavor.
It's low season but this is ridiculous... the LK strip is pretty basic and while there is the occasional looker, it is (IMHO) bleak. Someone posted that the real cuties come to BKK as to not be seen in the local venue. That would seem to be the case. Spicey's after hours has lots of girls (most not interesting) but plenty of freebies after the bars close I find.
If I had more time to do the "networking" scene, I imagine this would turn up some fun. Clearly lots of cuties around, just not easy pickings as in BKK. If anyone has some other suggestions (or better yet #s) love to know more about the scene before I leave.

As part of my (limited) but ongoing quest for knowledge, I did get around some in CM. Frankly, there is little new I can offer here but confirm the following
I went to Foxy Lady.. 60 baht beer for happy hour (till 10 or so). I was early, around 7 and it was really lame. no real lookers. Don't remember the names of the other 2 gogos I went to but they were even worse.
Loi Kroh strip has a bunch of places the few nights I went by I would say only 1 in 10 were worth the time. At the LK complex where the Muay Thai ring is, there is a fair amount of action but similar quality.
I did see 2 free lancers there that were absolute stunners but the vast majority were great fun but nothing to take home.
Checked out Pandora's and Sayurri... again, early around 8. At Pandora's, price was 1500 fishbowl, 1800, 2000 and 2500 for SL. When I was there, the SLs were just coming in. There were a few lookers however I got the feeling they would be a starfish so passed and went out.
As I walked around the Karaoke places have some really beautiful women and clearly the place if you want quantity and quality. As been pointed out in this and other threads, it helps a great deal if you can speak Thai. Mine is very basic and not enough to work the scene so I just checked it out and went on my way.
Sleepy as it may be compared to BKK, as GentleBen pointed out there is a lot happening in CM if you get inside the scene. If your thai is reasonable and you want some real lookers, I would do the karaoke scene, connect with one of the girls there and work your way in.

Fire ravages famour Khum Khantoke eatery

CHIANG MAI : A pre-dawn fire has engulfed a famous restaurant with precious artefacts in Muang district, causing about one billion baht in damages.
No injuries were reported.
Two buildings of the Khum Khantoke, a well-known Lanna-style restaurant which offers a cultural show, were destroyed in the blaze yesterday.
The fire was discovered at 3.30am after it started in the roof of one building in the restaurant complex and spread rapidly to another, police said.
The structures are built of teak wood, which fueled the flames.
Restaurant staff were not at the scene. Firefighters took two hours to bring the blaze under control. The cause of the fire was not immediately known.
Khum Khantoke owner Watchara Tantranond said all the restaurant's Lanna artefacts and antiques, kept on public display, were damaged.
He expected losses to reach at least one billion baht, excluding the exhibits.
The restaurant is the largest Lanna cultural centre in the North, attracting many tourists.

My experiences in Chiang Mai have been rather mixed, but generally disappointing.
My last two visits to Sayuri (walk, don't arrive by tuk-tuk unless you want to pay an extra 500 baht) were very disappointing. Paid 1000 baht for a starfish, no kissing, no bbbj, no interest in anything except finishing quickly to go back to the fishbowl.
I know that farang are often charged much more than 1000 baht. The key is to NOT ask the papasan the price, but to select a girl, go to the window, and produce 1000 baht. They will let you know if you owe an extra 100 baht or whatever. Ask the papasan and you'll get a price between 1500 and 2000 baht.
GIrls in bars on Loi Kroh Rd near the moat are generally disappointing. Not very attractive in general, not very engaging, not very interesting in closing a deal to leave for the night. Have to be lucky to find a keeper here.
Foxy Lady Go-Go, near the night bazaar, has some pretty girls, often aggressive in pushing for lady drinks, will go short time for a high price. Even if they agree to long time many "have to leave" in the middle of the night, when the boyfriend calls or whatever.
There is a Thai scene, girls for 500 baht, I can speak Thai and go out with a buddy who lives in Chiang Mai to visit these places, can be fun, really only accessible if you speak Thai and go with a local.

13 girls rescued after raid on karaoke bar

Provincial Police Region 5 officers joined forces with antihuman trafficking organisations to raid a karaoke bar in Chiang Mai's Muang district Wednesday and rescue 13 female workers, including three girls aged under 18.
Together with the Anti-Trafficking Coordination Unit Northern Thailand (Trafcord) and the Counter Human Trafficking Unit (CTU), police raided the "Mida" karaoke bar in Tambon Chang Pheuk at 12.30am and arrested bar manager and cashier Peerapat Mayer, 29, and three associates, Apha Thakhamma, 22, Songpong Mayer, 20, and Narongrit Chaiyawan, 38.
They also seized as evidence the bar's two account books, Bt2,500 in cash used in the police sting operation, another Bt3,760 in cash, one plastic coin worth Bt200 for a sex worker to trade for payment from the bar, and three motorcycles used to deliver the sex workers.

I visited Spotlight gogo bar on the east moat several times last month, after not having been inside for years.
There were a few attractive girls dancing, some less attractive, and the girls were very friendly, wanting tips and lady drinks of course.
Mamasan kept a good eye on the place, and was generally helpful in making arrangements, even though I can speak Thai.
My first night I went with a girl who apparently could not read or write either Thai or English, and her spoken Thai was very poor, much worse than her English. At first I thought she was Burmese, but later I found out from a regular at the bar that she is in fact Chinese. The barfine was 600 baht, and I paid her a high 1500 baht ST. Service was ok, including showering together, but she needs lessons in condom management, as her fumbling was less than inspiring. Nonetheless, very pretty slender girl who will eventually be a good provider if she listens to her customers.
My Chinese girl was drunk the next night, so Mamasan brought over another very slender girl, somewhat older, long hair, who provided excellent service. BF 600 baht, I paid her a possibly high 2000 baht LT, and repeated the next night. Exceptional service, including passionate DFK. I was very pleased to find such excellent service with a Spotlight girl.
Overall the scene at Spotlight was much better than in the beer bars along Loi Kroh and the moat, most of the girls were not very attractive nor very interested in anything beyond a lady drink. Seemed like a waste of time to hang in these bars...
I briefly looked into Foxy Lady, some attractive girls dancing, but I didn't engage.

Sent a few days in CM. Today stopped by 3 soapies:
Sayuri - very run down. not very impressed with the girls, who looked older and miserable.
Pandora - this place was amazing 10 years ago. the Ed Powers framed picture commemorating his 13 girl session still hangs in the room. not many girls, who were younger than sayuri girls, but they looked pretty miserable, too.
Chiang Mai Hill - this place was probably the best of the lot. but, I decided to try other options.
In the end, I used a mamasan that I've known for the last four years to arrange a session for me.
