Ok I look on http://www.xe.com/ucc/ and its says: -
United Kingdom Pound = £1
= 70.0425 THBThailand Baht
Ok sounds good, I look into converting the money in England at the post office I get quoted-
United Kingdom Pound = £1
= 65 THBThailand Baht
Where do you guys get your money converted? Is the post office the best place? Do you convert all your spending money in England? Do you bring cash/credit cards? What about converting in Thailand?
Any help or feedback would be great as im looking to convert a few thousand it all adds up ;p

If you are coming to Thailand and have British Pounds (or any foreign currency), then convert them when you arrive. Get one day's worth at the BKK airport, and then convert the rest at a bank or money exchange booth in a tourist area.
Better yet, bring travelers checks, especially if you can get them without a fee. The larger the denomination of the TC, the less fees you will pay to cash them. Overall, the exchange rate for TC's plus fees is about equal to exchanging cash in Thailand.
Get rid of all your Thai baht at the airport before you leave to go home.

I finally used TCs for the first time on my last trip. I brought a mixture of cash and TCs. In the past some of my older American notes were rejected. Now I only bring current notes. Even then, each time I exchange cash, the tellers scrutinize the bills so much that they always get me nervous that they won't accept them like before.
When I exchanged my TCs, I just signed my name, showed them my passport, they made a quick phone call, and it was done. No getting out the magnifying loop and looking at it 3 to 4 times and holding it up to the light and whatever else it is they do. It just felt easier.
There's a bunch of places (banks and exchange booths) all over the place. Just pick the one with the best exchange rate.

Taking the old (especially the 1996 $100s run) U.S. notes is usless. Demand from your bank, 'these will be spent on pussy, so crisp ones only please'.

I bring 50's now, since having the problem with 100's last year. It's a little bulkier, but stashed in the hotel safe no problem.
And right on faster, I ALWAYS tell the teller, (hey that's why they're call "tell-hers" right, that this hard earned money is for my hard on, and goes to struggling Pattaya hookers hell bent on helping me down the road to ruin.

The reason for the scrutiny for cash, and the reason for the better exchange rate of TC's (before fees) is that the banks don't have to worry about counterfeits TC's so long as they folllow simple identification procedures as prescribed by the TC companies. If they follow the procedures, the TC company will pay them off even if they are fakes or stolen.

what kind fees do you pay on TC is general? I always just pull cash out (in larger doms eg $1000 at a time) with VISA, visa rates always seem to have a good exchange rate + 2% + $5 transaction fees so on $1000 I will pay $25 total in fees, what would be the similar amount in travels cheques in fees and what is the exchange rates like?

For me, TCs are free at my Bank.
So, I look for a place that has a good exchange rate and transaction fee. Where I typically go, the transaction fees are 30bt per TC, no matter what the denomination of the TC. So, I carry $500USD TCs.
I also carry USD cash (new $100 bills) and an ATM card that works. Everything goes into safe deposit box at hotel until I need it.
BTW, in the USA this is a good time to ask your bank for new bills. They start stocking them for the Christmas season and generally return them afterwards because they stick together and are difficult to count. I just ask my bank for x number of bills and they will call me when the new supply comes in.
I discovered in Myanmar (Burma) this week that you should bring $100 bills for exchanging to local currency, and 1, 5 & 10 bills for buying stuff on the street. All new or as clean as you can get. $20 didn't seem as useful, since few things cost that much, and they don't get as good of an exchange rate as $100s. USD for all the above.

Thanks for your help, but the post office here changes any currency commission free… I live in England not America.
Not ever used traveller’s cheques, so if I get TC in Thailand just dropping into a bank will ensure I get full conversion rate?
