Good to see that I'm not the only idiot who has made this mistake. Down in Patong now. No naughtiness yet, but I'm just enjoying myself and relaxing. Plenty of time let before we move on. If you drink 40 Changs, I suggest that you would not even find the toilet, and would probably be removed in a black box.
Your post reminds me of a situation I had a few years back, which I actually detailed in a running FR at the time.
I had arranged to meet my (Thai) wife at the Huntsman Pub, but while she was putting on her slap, she agreed to let me go to Gullivers for an hour, to watch the "football". In London she couldn't give a flying f*** about where I go, but in Bangkok she might as well shove a surveylance camera up my arse. Anyway, instead of Gullivers I went to Cosmos (Patpong Soi II), and spent hours there in the company of the usual nicer, less pushy, girls found in Cosmos. When I eventually returned to our hotel with my tail between my legs, she had somehow opened the safe and found out that I had lied about how long I had been in Bangkok and how long I was to stay in Bangkok, while she was going to visit her family up North, ie. I had told her I would be flying back to London, but really I was going to be spending another 10 days or so in heaven.
She basically went nuts, left the hotel in tears, and now, even 3 years later not a day goes past when she doesn't bring it up and our marriage has been basically hanging by a thread.
I won't get divorced because I refuse to ket her have half of my house, money etc - everything I have worked my arse off over the years to get to where I am today.
Nowdays, she reluctantly acceps that I need space and I get time to myself 2 or 3 times a year in Bangkok. But this time is planned carefully, so I am not caught out - sometimes I even book 2 appartments at the same time, so if she actually turns up or rings me, at least I am staying there (in name anyway) 
From my experience, it is hard work being married, and Bangkok just brings to the surface the fun element and the lust element that every male has, whilst at the same time makes you resentful of the fact you have got a piss boring marriage, where the spark has long gone. But this is not real - it is not worth getting a divorce just because of the fun you can have in Bangkok.
I am lucky because I have a reason to go the Thailand several times a year, and subsequently can do my thing. If your wife is English and you have no reason to be in Bangkok, other than holiday............................................................................................................

It's a tough choice to make, romeland... IMHO it's only money...you can get that back....you can't get your time back.
Maybe it was easier for me as the ex-wife's lifestyle had kept me in debt anyway so anything else was likely to be better - she got the house (and used it like an ATM) and I got the debt - eight years on its still the best deal I have made in my life.
As the joke says "Why is a divorce expensive?" "Because it's worth it!"
