I was a member a while back and I learned a lot from this forum. I came to BKK 6-7 years ago using all the info I had gathered on the site. It was awsome. I am planning to return to BKK, hopefully in July, and I want to update my files. Any and all comments are welcome.
1) At the time, I rented a 2 bedroom at the Grand President, in the "new tower" if I recall. Good view of the city. One room was dedicated to fun only, while I kept the other for my personal use. It worked out perfectly. Being close to the Eden Club was also a real plus for me as I preferred to have the girls staying at my place - a short walking distance from the Club. I am planning to do the same thing for my next trip, but I wanted to know if the Grand President was still a good option, or if there were other places I should consider.
2) I went to Phuket, got my PADI Open Water certificate there. I liked the place but I regretted not bringning a sweety I liked from Eden. There were some nice girls in Phuket but I thought there was less choice. When you don't feel like investing time searching for the perfect girl, isn't better to bring one with you or is it too much? How is the local scene now? Has the place recovered from the Tsunami? Is it more of a family destination these days?
3) Beer Bars and discos are not my thing. I like Eden type places. Is there any other place like in BKK that I should consider? I also like massage once in a while, sandwich style, what would you recommand for a memorable experience?
4) Last time, I went in November. How is BKK in July?

1) GP is 6-7 yrs. older now. Loads of other options nowadays, even in the same Soi... read appropriate threads...
2) Scene in Patong is still pretty much as you described it, Tsunami long forgotten...
3) no other place like Eden in BK, competitors all gone (Sisters etc.) and surely not in Phuket. Pattaya has "Devils Den"(?) which comes close I guess...
4) in general: more hot and less rainy

Phuket is the same as you left it just a few more resorts/hotels and a new big shopping centre in town.
I'd take a girl from BKK as there are more women to choose from so you're more likely to get what you want, although I'm sure a few members on the site will say you can get what you want in Phuket.
In 7 years there has been a lot of hotels built in BKK and as always a great deal of choice. I look on Agoda, Expedia and Wotif to see what specials they have and then if I don't know the hotel I go to Trip Adviser and find out its rating.
