... I still go maybe twice a year, just to mix it up, but they lost me when they went local... the smoked ribs are still good, with the following qualifications:
(i) they now appear to cook their BBQ in one big batch, rather than keeping a steady stream of fresh ribs coming off the pit... the result is that the ribs are dried out by mid-evening, or you get reheated ribs... (both are a BBQ sacrilege) ; and,
(ii) they slather an incipidly sweet BBQ sauce all over them... properly smoked ribs need no sauce, except as applied early in the pit, to seal them in a fine glaze (depending on the sauce)... a BBQ wannabe can conceal a plethora of BBQ Primal Sins with sauce... Great American Rib's sauce could make the cardboard box the toilet paper is delivered in taste BBQ-ish.
... so, if you go... go early... and, get the sauce on the side... (ALWAYS, regardless where you choose to worship BBQ ribs... it's BBQ scripture... thou shalt not sin!... don't... do it!).
... while they do have a nice al fresco dining area and the music is generally pretty good, the sides and the rest of the menu are pretty unremarkable... service is now lax.
... for BBQ ribs, I shifted to Robb Vaughn's new restaurant (opened 1Q2011)... Los Cabos Mexican Cantina down on Soi 14, about 50 meters from Asoke BTS Station.
... while his Mexican fare will make Great American Rib's Mexican (and most others) wither, he is still serving some righteous smoked ribs.
... Los Cabos is now a regular circuit stop for me.

Los Cabos.....wow. Went there last week about 10pm. We were the only customers inside or out and the food was the worst fare in any Mexican joint ever, left after 2 bites and 1200 baht bill. The Thai restaurant opposite was booming!

Central Texas (Austin and surrounding towns) has the best BBQ IMO. Most experts say the best BBQ joint in the world (or known universe) is Franklin's BBQ in Austin.
Franklin's opens at 11:00 AM and they stay open until they run out of food, which is usually about 1 to 2 PM. But you have to get in line by about 7 or 8 AM to have any chance to get any food. Of course, when Barak Obama went there, he cut in line.

FYI, the US embassy staff goes to Roadhouse BBQ at Rama 4 and Sattorn, and they do have good BBQ, although it is a little bit expensive. They also have a lot of their embassy staff parties there.
I haven't been there in quite a long time, but the Cactus Bar in soi cowboy used to do food on Tuesday and Thursday, with a rotating menu, that had Kansas City style BBQ ribs, a full rack, with a few sides, like deviled eggs and fries, in the menu rotation for bt300. The last I heard the price went up to bt320, if he is still doing it. There was also fried chicken in the rotation, and sausages.

A new restaurant opened in the Holiday Inn hotel on Sukhumvit, soi 22, street level. It's called the "Cali-Mex Bar and Grill" restaurant. Some delicious looking BBQ ribs and burgers are on the menu, along with the Tex/Mex cuisine. Looks like a sports bar and grill, with flat screens showing sporting events. The waitresses look pretty good too, don't know if there on the menu.
