i will be coming to BKK on June 22, this is my third visit. usually I bring cashier's checks as if they are stolen they can be replaced, I will bring a atm card, but in the past they only give you baht
first question: I will be arriving at night, close to midnight, will the money exchangers still be open at the airport? need money for taxi and probably drinks etc
I will be going to cambodia for a week and I have been told that the dollar is the currency they use, but use only small bills
any suggestions, I appreciate your help

I'm not sure about the money exchange places at the airport. I would think that they would be open.
And, no info on Cambodia. Sorry.

Yes, you will be able to cash traveler checks at the airport late at night. You must have your passport with you to cash traveler checks (which obviously you will have at the airport).
Probably best to have a $100 bill with you, which should be enough for a taxi and drinks (maybe bring $200 in cash if you want P4P). Make sure you bring the newer $100 bills with you, because some will not exchange the older ones which are easier to counterfiet.
Then the next day you can cash the traveler checks at a bank anywhere in town (you get a better exchange rate at banks rather than at the airport).

The prefered currency in Cambodia is the US dollar (take a lot of 1 and 5 dollar bills), they will however accept Baht and Riel (Cambodian money) You might want to check out THIS link also.
The banks will fukk you if you go there to exchange money, I lost 100 dollars changing from Canadian dollars to Cambodian Riel, it is best to have enough US money with you.
If you are going to Siem Reap you might want to stay at the Moon Rise guest house, the rooms are small but the place is brand new, there is a ton of p4p on the same street, prices for an air con room are 8 USD and they are guest friendly, check them out HERE.
You can also have a good pizza at Happy Herbs, every taxi driver knows where the place is. Order a HAPPY HAPPY pizza with a side order of happy, you will be very happy about an hour after dinner.

Since you are in Thailand you will be fine with Thai Baht. Or do I miss something here..... Any other currency will not be of much use in Thailand. Bring US$ for Cambodia and use ATM for Thailand.
