Agreed that MrJoe didn't leave because of rules. ŬI think Sauron's point is that rules tend to drive valuable posters away. ŬI do NOT agree with this. ŬI think some kind of balance has to exist, and it was WAY out of balance when Joe left.
Anyway, BK is working at figuring out what works to attract the kind of people he wants here. ŬThat is Good.
Jay: ŬI fervently HOPE that this forum does NOT attract any more of the WSG-types. ŬHaving spent some time there, I can tell you that it attracts the kind of folks that Thailand DOESN'T NEED. ŬTwo types, primarily: the "Golly, I'm gonna go get some of that orie-n-tul poon-tang...uh huh, uh huh, uh huh..." knuckle draggers, and the "I've been there. ŬGather 'round while I tell you how it REALLY is..." one-trip wonders, lecturing the adoring fans with gems like "Always get a taxi from the upper departure level so you can save the 50 baht from the taxi kiosk...", etc...Oh yeah, the would-be Conrad-esque novelist and amateur cultural psychologist. ŬA swell crowd.
Note, too, that the board owner is a homophobe, and won't allow discussion of ladyboys, etc., nor will he allow posting of links to 'competing' websites. ŬHis rules, his forum, and he's welcome to it.
I know for a fact that there is some cross-pollenation, but the Web-TV crowd seems to prefer the WSG. ŬAnd That is Good. ŬIf you need that kind of fix, it's only a couple of clicks to get there, without polluting this board with a WSG section. ŬThere is a 'Reports outside of Thailand' section already.

HS, you're reading me all wrong. What I suggested is a list of links, outbound links!, to ther resources for other places beside Thailand. The point being to not only stop the questions "where to f*ck in X" but also "where I can I find a forum to teach me to f*ck in X". See?
If BK doesn't want competition, that's fine. Costs bucks to pay for all this. Some magazines don't take ads for other magazines either so it's not a unique thing.
So bar outbound links to sites with Thai-only content or big Thailand sections.

Actually, I read you wrong, AND overreacted to the WSG thing. ŬAnd I've never known BK to object to the posting of ANY legit link. ŬI was referring to the owner of WSG.

As for a list of other sites, BK may want to consider whether the maintainance of such a list is best done by him, or by YOU in your browser, since it presumably takes a bit of searching to find what is and is not interesting.

Although I hate you, I will explain WSG. ŬIt is short for World Sex Guide, a website that has morphed from humble beginnings to a list of every known P4P locality in the known world. ŬSections for every major city in all geographical regions get kept up to date by legions of trolling sex-addicts. "Saw 3 cops on the corner of X and Y today, with one spandex-coated BSW (Black Street Walker), and a crack-whore named Wanda-June." would be a typical entry from the Bumf_ck, Iowa section (not far from Thin White Duke's birthplace in Dubuque...)
The owner of the board has been to Thailand, and has a soft spot for a certain Indian tailor, which he promotes "because I can".
I dare not post a link, but will PM one to you, if you publically stick needles in your eyes first.

Yeah, HS, I figured we were just talking past each other. No harm, no foul. There's not only WSG but WSGforum whose URL should be pretty easy to figure out. But I won't post it without OK from BK.
Keeping my list of p4p forums or fora in my bookmarks is great, but, it doesn't help anybody else unless I can post it. Nor does it help head off future requests for stuff that doesn't belong here clogging up the works.
Just saying that if BK is amenable, make ONE topic in ONE folder for ONE thread where guys can chuck in links to other boards where people are talking about p4p not in Thailand.

BK, thank you for the new rules !
Hopefully ths forum will be much better and informative afther the flamers have left. For many posters it seemed to be the daily entertainment to flame other posters.
I also think that many "virgins" like myself would dare to post more in this forum if we knew that the daily flamers were gone. I am still a virgin but with more than 60 trips(4-6 times a year) to Thailand I also feel that I am an expert on the Bangkok nightlife. Still I do not have the urge to tell averybody that I know it all. This forum has to many dot-collectors !
I almost visit this forum daily to keep updated for my next trip but it has been much work to serch thru a lot of replys from people who realy dont have anything to add.

Sauron refered to a certain anarchy in the forum. which he Ŭthought was good. I agree with him part of the way.
I consider myself one of those who have posted utter nonsense to threads which Ihave seen as light-hearted fun amongst Ŭthe brothers. I think thats ok.
I likewise think that some threads like the WWII one, came about as a few of the guys who are regular posters and know heach other very well, discovered a common interest in a topic which has nothing to do with LOS. However, because the common interest was uncovered and we all read/post on this forum regularly, it evolved. THis is where we meet. In terms of content that particular thread was very informative and good. Should it be blocked because it has no relevnace to LOS?
Personally I don't think so, as it is an offspring from a discussion amongst people who actively contriutes to the main forum. Hence, I think "constructive" anarchy should be allowed. ŬThese threads tend to fizzle out after a while.
Intelligent humor ala Hermano Lobo or TWD, whther relevant or not I read with great amusement. Repetitive shouting matches ala F You Ŭare boring and I dont think anyone will miss them.
To Sum it up: Largemindedness should be the order of the day to captive diverse participants, tolerance combined with respect both ways tend to do the trick.

An alternative would be to automatically limit the threads in the "news" or in a new "anything else" section to a max. of say 3 or 4 or 5 pages. This way we cut the momentum of any silly thead and insure that non-LOS discussions do not go on forever.
Allowing threads to go beyond the alloted number of pages then becomes a privilige that the moderator uses at his discretion for those threads deemed worthy of more pages.
Afterall, very few new topics will deserve anything over 5 pages. Most things are already in the forum. The good threads when and if they deviate they quickly go back to topic. The ones that are hijacked are the ones that most of the time were not that relkevant to begin with.

"The Hose by the Toilet" still needs to be going. ŬI had many a guffaw over that one. ŬThink it would be a mistake to limit the number of pages on a subject. ŬThey usually die of their own will anyway.
I personally enjoyed the "News" category. ŬIt does bring out the animal in some of us though.
