Because this thread is being run by a script called "topix.cgi" which still shows dots. The rest of the board when run by the normal script "topic.cgi" does not show dots.

i'm going to be the bad boy here and disagree with most of the previous posters.
i don't like the new changes.
i happened on this Forum by chance in?(now i am not allowed to be told when i joined)and i liked the place and made it my main Forum.
i was a regular on another,but BKKtonight seemed better so i started to spend many hours here.
there was much info to be ingested and while i was innocent about BKK,i stayed and tried to learn.
i made friends with a few members and much merriment was had on the Forum and many PM's were sent.
then suddenly the Forum became very popular and fights developed between members(i have been guilty of this)and things were not the same.
i did'nt like the fights and saw no reason for them,but i have explained things elsewhere.
there are members from way back who were serial posters,but now it is rare to see them post,is there a reason for this?.
you rarely see the older members having a go at each other,i see it is the newer members having a go at the older ones,why?.
i personally have rarely had harsh words with anyone who was a member before me.
i liked the old format(date joined,number of posts,Dots,etc).
how now will i know if someone is a newbie?.
someone called 'hfungn'may ask a question and we,the members might think what a wanker and give him/her a hard time.
but it might be a genuine question and 'hfungn' might have been a member for 1 year and have 800 posts.
he/she might be a local/ex-pat.
there are some threads i never look at these days
how will we know.
because of the lack of info and the remarks made against them,he/she might decide never to return and that would be a shame.
they might have the most important info some member wants.
how can we use the UTFSE Ýreply?
we do not know they are a newbie and should know better.
in the past BK had decided that a certain amount of posts made you a 'soapy slave' or a 'virgin' and much fun was made of this.
but now this is all gone,all are allowed to choose their own name underneath their avatar.
the reward for reaching 1000 posts in the past was having your own avatar and quote below,it was a bit of fun.
i know i was the worst person for this,i got my avatar for reaching 1000 posts and as other members reached the milestone,the avatar and quote was changed.
certain members complained about this and i think this is why the rules have been changed,but i might be wrong.......but i know i'm not.
it's a pity BK has changed things because of pressure from other members.
i just wish we could go back to the Forum i knew and loved.
why not go all the way and ban all avatars(give everyone the same)and have everyone have the same quote below?.
and i see a certain Thread of mine has been deleted(i think).
cannot find it anywhere and i am annoyed.
was a popular thread ,many posts,but new members did not like it and it has gone......very strange.
but i will say i would like to welcome TWD to the 1000 Club......

Nokna: I agree that it was handy to be able to tell in an instant if a member was an oldtimer/frequent poster or not. But I do think this change was necessary. But you can still check if a member is a newbie or not by clicking on the members 'profile' - the number of posts and date joined still shows up there and I hope BK will keep it that way.
So you'll still be able to use the 'UTFSE' answer, it just takes a few more clicks before making that decision.

why should we have to keep clicking here and clicking there?.
before all info was there for all to be seen,no problems a year ago.
the old system worked fine,as they say-"if it ain't broke........."
will it stay that way?,not if people have their way.

I am all for the new setup. Keeps members from making useless posts just to raise the numbers for obtaining another pip.
Also 1 thread a day seems more than enough for me. If you look at all the threads on this forum there has to be some older thread that has the topic one wants to post about. Like all those 'where can I get Viagra' threads for instance.
Do a search before you start a thread and revive an older one if possible.

Nope, no pressure at all. Just my observations on how members behaved with those pips e.g. members celebrating (and creating threads) their n-th pip and how many posts they have made, etc. And some guys making nonsensical posts, just to increase his post count, to get those pips. It was my own decision, all mine.

For what it's worth, I like the new changes.
Some of the old-timers seemed to think that the number of dots by their name corresponded to the credibility of their posts. Not always the case.
Newbies who wanted more dots would add numerous meaningless posts - - like this one for example.
