Hello,
I administed a Mirates HIV self-test yesterday and the result came up negaitive...longest 15 minutes of my life! Can any of you speak of the validity of such products...in particular the Mirates products...it is approved by the Nertherlands and other countries but not by the US...on their website it gurantees 99% accuracy and I read other positive information on the web about the tests accuracy...any informatiom will be appreciated...do you think I should go to a clinic and have another test or just assume that the results of the Mirates tests was accuracte?

Did you buy this self-test in Thailand ?
Its just easy to go to the clinic..get results fast and efficiently.
If you go for test every 3 months or so then it takes the nerves out of it.

It is my understanding that with these tests the very small potential error is mainly for them to give you a false positive i.e, if you do not have the virus you test positive. The tests test for antibodies to HIV not HIV itself and supposedly virtually never give false negatives, but if they can't actually find the virus through any test i'm not sure how they can state that fact.
Still as Big D would say don't take medical advice from someone on the internet. So if you are still concerned that get a 2nd test.

I would say go get a real test.
As fattass (broken leg) posted I have also read that they most often give a false positive not negative.
You didn't mention why you took the test?
I can only assume you did something or had something happen that made you think you should take a test.
Well now you can take a real test and be about 99.9% sure it will come up negative after taking the home test.
Still best to take a real test I think.

Hey bought the test on-line at Mirates.com...why did I take it....numerous times of unprotected sex...not just with BG's...yes stupid and not going to happen again....well hope not anyways

Get a real Elisa test. If you want to be 100% get an Elisa AND a PCR-DNA from the hospital.
Don't count on the rapid tests because there are easy to mess up and can give false info.

remember if u get tested in thailand and are positive,the doc. will report to the gov and u will be deported and blacklisted -get the real test at home
