I discussed the VD situation with my doctor before my 1st trip to LOS and he prescribed CIPRO: 2 - 500mg tablets per day while I in the LOS and for 1 week after getting back to the LONS - Land of NO Smiles..........
So far I come up clean after many visits to both BKK and Pattaya - and yes, I have snacked at the Y from time to time...
Tastes particularly yummy after a night of clubbing - 
Maybe I have just been lucky, but the peace of mind is worth the money - just like I know my BG is now living at home with her parents doing charity work for the poor.....

About 20 years ago I had two instances of G (both in Pattaya).
At first I worried a lot about it. Saw a doctor who assured me that it wasn't such a big deal. Got an injection and some medicine and was cured after 3-4 days (in both cases).
Symptoms (after approx 1 day after infection):
- sores on your dick
- pissing razor blades
See a doctor ...... You'll glad you did!
As veneral deceases are not covered under your travel insurance, ask the doctor to modify the description on the receipt to 'skin infection' or so.

This issue has been discussed in a couple of threads. Using anti-biotics as a preventative medicine is damn foolish. Overuse of anti-biotics may weaken your bodies ability to make use of the drugs later, when and if you become infected with real problematic bacteria.
A doctor's 'script is not the last word, but a condom is the first word. The doctor may have given you the advice because you were stressful in your worry.
He may have been trying only to reduce your worrysome stress that he may have felt was more damaging to you than taking 2 courses of cipro.
They do it for less.

Even if I forgot to bring condoms, I have never had a BG who does not carry her own....

I did think it through because I had the same concerns you voiced. I decided most next generation beasties end up thriving on anti-biotics, so the pharmacuetical industries keep coming up with newer and stronger drugs.
Probably a self-fuffiling prophecy - the human race will be come extinct from males biting the dust through some virulent form of VD, TG's from broken hearts because their true loves AKA ATM's are gone, and Caucasian farangs women because there reproductive organs have atrophied due to lack of use........
I think I will quit while I am ahead - at least in my mind. Any more added to this post and I will become DG jr.....

your doctor is a quack... taking antibiotics like that as a preventative measure only catalyzes the mutations of the diseases that become resistent to those cures.... that is the reason they are prescription-controlled in most countries. if every idiot did that, in 50 years we'd have gonorrea that was uncurable....

Not to mention that Cipro is a truly dangerous drug. İAsk your connective tissue, particularly your Achilles' tendon, to do something useful, and if you've been on Cipro (or other flouroquinilones), you may get a BIG surprise...
I know of only ONE case where a drug, which is an antibiotic, is used prophylatically, and it is not used that way against any bacteria: doxycycline as an anti-malarial. İMalaria is caused by a parasite, NOT a bacteria.
People who take Cipro, and especially Zithromax to prevent infection are insuring that new, even more resistant strains will emerge, to the end that eventually, NO antibiotic will be effective.
Not good.
