Also having people on the board NOT being honest about their financial interests affects others in another way. An honest board member may report a short coming of a bar and then will be harrassed / belittled and generally STALKED by parties trying to drive them out.
Just see what happened to me when I commented on the smell in the Star of Light bar.

Mel, I just want to say that is a damned good point. Black Bart I have to say I was a little envious because your review of Bangkok Sisters was a damned sight more amusingly written than one I did. But I wish everybody who posted here could share the combination of reason and humour that you show in your post.

Sorry to beat a dead horse, Mel, but you keep bringing it up. It's the dead horse that smells now.
The plain fact of the matter was, regardless of the very silly tone THAT thread sometimes takes on, most people who patronize that place thought your experience was absurd.
There was no other alternative reason. Just accept that. You don't have to have everyone agree with you all the time, do you? Of course not. You're your own man with your own opinions. This can't be the first time you have been the only one with a differing point of view. I know it's not because I've seen many of your posts, and violent reactions to your posts, on this Forum, especially the racial ones. Hey, that's just the way you are and the way many others are. There is no reason to keep on about it. You will never convince them, nor they you. That is life. Not all of your posts will be liked by everyone, Mel; you know this by now. I'm sorry, I know how it feels to have an opinion or a feeling that varies from one's peers, but we have to stick to the facts in every case without resorting to unfounded accusations that besmirch members' credibility at the basic level.
You perceived something you didn't like. Others laughed at you about it. You're peppering various threads with your trauma over it. You would like others to sympathize with you over it; or as if, over time you can convince everyone that you were maligned. And not only that, maligned because as you insinuate here, your attackers had financial interests in the place which is patently untrue and I defy anyone to prove me otherwise. That is why I am posting this now. Neither myself, nor alice phallus, nor NicFrenchy, nor Joe Wood, nor Cunnilingual, nor any of those guys had or have any financial interest in SOL bar....... Can you back it up?
And honestly, I resent your insinuation which is an affront to my honor and the good natured sarcasm which I aimed at you at the time.
And further than that, though I cannot answer for everyone in this next matter, I myself have not stalked you as you put it. How gay that would be. This is also verifiable due to the recorded history of posts.
Unless as some posters there have suggested, the girls of that bar really are learning English so well they're reading that thread and posting on it!!! Is that what you are talking about???.. Is that what you believe?
Now my reply to you here should probably be in that thread, so it can be moved and just a link provided here. However, why should I let your unfounded accusations land wherever they may without answering them?

Well, now for a brief back on topic break.... My first visit to The Strip this evening hit several sour notes. It was a Friday evening about 10:30, and most of the customers were hanging in the back by the bar. The curtained cubicles (showrooms?) were mostly empty. The coyote-style dancing was not my favorite (to me, coyote dancing just means that the agogo girls are wearing more clothes than they should). I sat down inside a cubicle, but couldn't see much of the dancers, so moved to sit on the front edge of a cubicle seat, from where I could see most of the bar, but it was not very comfortable. I ordered a beer, which came, but no check-bin in a cup along with it. This is a red flag in Patpong, since the notorious upstairs rip-off bars do this. So I had to demand that the bill be placed on my table alongside the beer. This was finally done, tho grudgingly, and meanwhile I was made aware of the unfortunate presence of several katoeys (lady-boys) in this bar, including an especially flagrant one who seemed to be the "mama"san. Katoeys are normally more aggressive and offputting than real girls, and this was certainly my experience in this bar.
With beer and check finally on my table in the cubicle, I was joined by an actual real girl, fairly attractive. From her I managed to find out about the process of pulling the curtain to privatize the cubicle. This would cost me 400 baht--another (!) drink for me at 250, and a drink for her at 150. I found this pricing a bit strange, since I already had my beer in front of me. When I asked about expected tip for whatever private dance she would perform on the small table inside the cubicle, the expected reply was "Up to you". As I have discovered thru unpleasant experiences, "up to you" often means that it is up to you to give the girl at least as much as she expects to get for her service, tho you may be in the dark as to how much she wants.
Anyway, this girl was pleasant and attractive enough that I was on the verge of saying OK, bring on the two drinks, and let's close the curtain for you and me. At that moment, the bar's smoke machine was turned on and belched forth a copious amount of noxious smoke. I gagged and headed for the door and some breatheable air. The katoey mamasan anxiously followed me outside, worried I was going to run without paying. To get rid of him/her, I paid for my beer on the spot. The pleasant girl sympathized with my aversion to smoke, using a hello-girl's sign to fan the smoke away from my lungs. She was a sweetie, and I gave her a tip that I hope made her happy, but I was not going back inside that bar again. I wish I could have experienced, and reported on, what happens when the curtain is pulled closed on a cubicle for 400 baht, but I can only hope that another BTFer can do that for us.

Gave the Strip another try.
I was invited by a cute hostess to enter the bar so I did. Sat at the bar Area and there were another 3 customers. I ordered a drink and waited.
the 3 other customers and the myself all had lost looks on our faces, the girls dancing were not stunners and once shifts change, they don't come to sit with customers, they just go sit in the booths and look bored.
No one, not even the girls did explain the Booth experience... one would think that it is in their own interest to lure customers in there (and get tips).
I know the bar is still in the early phases, but there are so many wrong things already that I do not think they will ever recover.
If this was my place, I would do the Following:
1. Get a new Bar Manager! one that cares about the business.
2. The concept is great, but only if people know about it.
3. Print out flyers and give them away at the entrance. Customers who will not enter the bar can get a quick MO of the place and come back
4. Make sure there are small tent cards on the bar explaining the use of the booths.
5. before customers order a drink, have the staff explain the booths and pricing (that might avoid frustrations of having to be hit with a second drink charge of 250 when you already have a full drink).
6. Get girls that smile
7. Get the girls incentives whenever they sucker punters in the booths
8. between shifts, girls who do not dance should not be allowed to sit in the Booths
9. When a Booth is occupied, unless the girl is screaming for help, Do NOT open the curtain.
10. remove the middle dancing area and put high tables and stools for customers to sit.
11. have the girls dance in the room (in between tables) and on the bar (as you already do)
12. Also, be clear on how long a punter can stay in the booth without having to re-order a set of drinks (I am sure there is a time limit as you don't want people to sit in there forever)
13. Maybe you want to charge 50thb or 100thb per song? that's debatable.
That's just my opinion. there are a lot of things to be done to make this bar work. but as I said, I LIKE the concept and I am sure there is a big market for it, but there are a lot of efforts to be made to make it work.

Some great points NicFrenchy.
I'd just point out that when I first visited, there were only about 4 booths. Three along the left-hand wall as you walk in, and one in the corner near the bathroom. Long tables and couches were along the other two walls in the bar, which offered a comfy place to sit with your tart du jour, and an unobscured view of the stage.
Changing it wasn't a very bright idea.
One of my pet hates about Bangkok's bars is the lack of consistency. When I hit the booth, I got a view of a (very pleasant) nipple. Kinkyboy69 (the OP) got a HJ.
@Aurum - if indeed you are the owner, or can pass this on: figure out what you're selling, how much it costs, and make sure the customers (and the girls) know it.
NicFrenchy said "the concept is great". After two visits to The Strip, I'm still not even sure what the concept IS!
