Harold, you havent experienced something -
Expat is 100% right -
You need to get out more-
Thailand is wonderful - and the Thais I have lived around toil all day -
But their fields are lush unlike some poorer areas-
I am not here to convince some cynical arsehole-
I dont care what people Think-
But it is blantantly wrong to say the majority of Thais are bad or untrustworthy or undecent-
I have seen both sides of the coin-
Certainly my credientials as a p4p long term punter is unquestionable- I have stayed north south - f***ed them all-
But it is plain misleading to cast the haunts you or I have dwelled in around p4p as being the "real" Thailand-
Define real"?
Well what makes up both the landscape most- its people and values-
There is a great body of deeply religious good gentle hard working Thais out there-
And no what I truely love about Thailand on a personal level is not just pussy -
Its what I have learnt in the countryside-
And yes some Farmers daughters in all their simplicistical manners make for a different experience-
I have had hooker wifes and younger sweethearts before-
I am not knocking anyone who is happy and/or it works for them -
But spare equally the bullshit when you address a Thailand you seem to know little about-
Like I said I dont care a f*** what you think - but like Expat and quim and Dopey - I think some balance is needed to give the reader unaware of both sides (or points ) of view-

About Singapore: What I said was that if you reduce a country to the sum of all the negatives, then Singapore would be a much better place. Still I will not move to Singapore because I don't apply this kind of reductionist view of Thailand or any other country. From this does not follow that Singapore should be better or worse than Thailand.

Cheap Charlie is a old BTF hand, one of the originals like me. I put that in because I know that when he reads my comments about Singapore he will complain about their drug policy.... sorta cutting him off at the pass.
As for my logic.... I live and base my business in Singapore to enjoy the advantages of being in what could be said to be a 'first world' country. Meanwhile I am only a couple of hours from the carnal pleasures of Thailand, PI, Vietnam, or Cambodia.
Furthermore add another hour or so and I am playing with the sweeties of Chengdu, Guangzhou, and Zhuhai.
So why should I fight the corruption, bureaucracy, and conflict in the Thai governing structure when I can have a stable high-growth base in Singapore...

It is the sickness that makes us all go there, because it makes fun and partying easy, cheap and convenient.
The problem only arises for those:
- that get their hooker pregnant, get married, and seem to feel legitimate.
- that use Thailand and Thais to work through their neuroses and treat Thais like crap.
- that are on the run from themselves, and live out their issues in Thailand.
The *real* problems arise when you have individuals that combine all the above.
Say, has anyone seen NM?
I do have to agree with the behavioral psychologist listed earlier - the best chance to succeed for Thais is by perfecting their English, and moving outside Thailand.

Hi China thanks I just think they should be more consistent so hang anyone caught with more than a 5th of voBKa or 10 heinekens. Of course corporal punishment for those caught with user amounts that will teach them.
Dont worry I have no intention of visiting Singapore im 200 yrs too late although friends that have been told me there was lots of splif being smoked on the beaches. 
Personally I dont smoke and certainly not in SE asia
just a little herbal tea or cake safely back in Amsterdam.
I only come to thailand because my wife forces me into it, I hate the place.

Thai woman who only wants kids raised outside Thailand as an idication of "WHAT"?..Many woman use that as a bargaining chip to move to richer pastures-
