I don't yet know what criterion Daffy had in mind but if you define the Thai view of success as making money and elevating their social status, then perfecting their English and moving outside Thailand are not relevant at all.

Like most of us Harrold I was a Kid when I started marrying Farang woman-
You learn-
Move on-
Then many moons ago I married my first Thai wife-

Harold your one of those guys that never envision good outcomes-

I must say I have to applaud you guys who were gutsy enough to marry a Thai woman, I know I couldn't.
Having fun, Dating, Girlfriends is one thing, but marriage is another (and children a whole different Story).
I say that because even after 6 years in Thailand I am still not ready to Embrace the Culture... No way, I am very proud of my roots, my culture and would not want to have to compromise it, because that is what I guess is expected when you have marriages of different cultures.
Some people say that many people come to thailand (or Asia) to find brides because they are either too ugly, sick or old to get one in their own country... I find this to be inaccurate. I truly believe some are in search of that exotic touch... well, I was under the spell for a while, Amazing thailand and its interesting ladies, different tasting pussies...
It has now grown old and boring, what was once exotic and fun is now just "normal".
I don't think I will EVER get to understand this country (even if I speak the lingo) and its people. But I am still here, having a great lifestyle, enjoying myself and working hard.
I think H444 completely missed the point of this discussion, we are not here to point fingers and look down on thai people but to try and make the best out of our time in their country. Smile, be happy and try to enjoy life a little (stepping into the dark side from time to time).
I was talking to a lady (ok, she is older) and she said to me that she knew her husband was going to massage places and having fun with other girls, but the most important for her was that he always returned home, took care of his Family and kept his fooling around out of the house.
Long and useless post from me... sorry... I'm not even sure what I tried to say myself...
