Livingstones as we know it is no more. Major re-furbishment in process and new management although Hermann will be staying on for a while. Seemingly the rooms will stay as is but ground floor total revamp. That is good news as there was a lot of dead space there.
It's an end of an era for me as Livingstones was my favourite Hotel on BKK for many many years, the location, staff and general ambience of the place. I hope they don't lose that with the new management and I hope it stays my favourite Hotel in BKK.

Livingstone's now Ocean has it's formal opening this Thursday anyone fancy meeting up to check out the new venue? I shall be taking a look-see. I am not promoting this place I always used to stay at Livingstone's and imho to date, had found no where better in BKK for me and my buddies to stay. Below is the official info.

The opening night was a big party and it was interesting to see how the space has been developed. The pool and pool area is much bigger and opens onto a bar. There was a disco with a very good sounds system going on where there used to be a dark and lonely pool table. It all seemed a little disorganised to me and not sure about the Boules being played in the entrance gives the right vibe? But it is not my place and what do I know. Did not get a chance to sample the food as I was chasing booze at the bar. Opening night hiccups maybe but getting a drink was not quick or easy. I am sure that over the season it will settle down and find it's rhythm. I will definitely venture back but at the end of the night I did find myself in a pool bar (as in playing pool not beside the pool) listening to a different DJ more mainstream than whatever is going on now. Yes Ocean is aimed at a younger audience than me, (50 +) and maybe soi 33 will see a Renaissance as this is the second type of disco club open on 33 (I forget the name of the one at the start of the soi left hand side from Suk) I hope that it is a success not sure if I would want to stay there with a late night club going on downstairs but give it time. First impression interesting but disorganised, last night it was definitely a place to be seen at, maybe not a place to see?

Stayed last night. Really wanted to like the place. Had booked two nights on booking.com.
Checked out this morning after one night. The place is rundown, dirty, old mattresses dumped in the hallway. The pool doesn't look clean.
This should be a big opportunity. Great location & the staff I met were lovely.
But why can none of them change a lightbulb, or more crucially a tap washer.
Really disappointing, 1700 a night rate, no breakfast, cash on arrival from booking.com
Place is quite obviously girl friendly. Quelle surprise!
