Just wanted to add a few more words of praise for this excellent hotel. The staff are great, the other guests tend to be friendly and sociable, the deluxe suites are fantastic - beautiful space, sensational jacuzzi, really comfortable bed with good quality bedlinen, TV and DVD in both the bedroom and the jacuzzi room. Good breakfast freshly made on request, great coffee and home made rolls any time through the day. (Presumably they're from the Swiss Grottino bakery - and, by the way, if you want a laugh, get a Thai girl to say 'bakery'.) For what you get, it's fantastic value.
The one drawback is that is quite a schlep from the end of the soi to Sukhumvit. No matter - the tuk tuk guy is always ready and willing to run you up to the top and if you really can't be arsed to walk all the way back down (which I couldn't) you can hop on a motorbike for just a few baht.
I only had two nights and one full day there last week - not nearly enough. During the day I had to get up early for business, drive a few hours out of Bangkok, then spend hours more tramping round a tree plantation. Getting back, I had every intention of going out for a wild night, but I was so shattered, I only made it a little way up the soi, stopped for something to eat then headed back. Stuck my head in the bar, which was empty except for half a dozen lovelies. Had a wonderful time, say no more - and still got a good long night's sleep.
By the way, I'm under no inducement whatsoever from RTB to write this! In fact I didn't even figure out who he was until I heard someone call him by that name, literally as I was walking out to go to the airport.

Just thought i'd add a few more good words about town lodge!
i stayed there for my 1st week during my months long holiday in thailand. I have no complaints at all about the staff, rooms, brekkie or anything else. the people are really nice and friendly (especially the young girl with the 'heaven' kanji tattoo on her hand!). The rooms are great, a good size and the decor is good too. the bed is definitely the focal point of the room (and rightly so) and theres a DVD/CD player too. I had brekkie a few times and its was a good. also it was never a problem to call up and reserve a room on the day of arrival or extend on the check-out day.
Yes, I suppose its not as convenient as some of the other hotels due to its location but you can get a very cheap price. I got my room for 1,080baht per night at thaihoteldiscounts.com. During my time in Bkk I saw quite a few rooms in various hotels just to see what they were like and TL, for the price band its in is definitely the best.
I only have one thing to say thats not a positive, and thats that during my week stay, the water was cut off for nearly 36hrs which created a bit of a problem when bringing girls back, as its necessary to shower. the problem was beyond the control of the hotel, so I was pretty understanding about the situation however inconvenient it was. it was a bit of a romance-killer to take girls back to the room knowing that they would have to wash using the supplied water from a large barrel in the bathroom. (i was offered the chance once to shower across the road in someone's apartment).
Eventually the water did come back on, but I just got the feeling that nobody really appreciated the inconvenience it had caused to me as a guest, taking girls back all the time and there was no mention of any kind of compensation of any kind (i had pre-paid for a full weeks stay). The matter was dealt with as though the problem had happened before. (I did get a letter outlining the problem and when the problem was due to be fixed).
I should also add that this incident didnt stop me from booking again for a further 4 nights about 2 weeks later when I was back in Bkk, so don't let it put you off from booking in!

I was visiting a Uni (Chula) girl that I know. Her father was the deputy governor of Nongkhai provence, and invited me to spend the night at his house.
House was magnificent. More than 5,000sq, lots of bedrooms and bathrooms. My bathroom had a large barrel in it for water (although the shower nozzle also worked just fine). So did every other bathroom that I saw in the house.
