There are some smart people who stay in these 5 star hotels for free, using the accumulated reward points.
Was there done that BK... when I was with Marriott Rewards program, they had an award for 235K points, with one week stay + 120K miles (enough for first class ticket USA - BKK). However, there are places where you get more value per night than BKK, but agree flights are good to get for miles (major airlines raising miles needed for award tickets, and so do major hotel chains). I am no longer with Marriott so am using other programs but not for BKK stays.
Still, through company specially negotiated rates, one can get quite good deals for a 5* hotels in BKK, when paying personally for such, as I have... which will be around US$100/night. At this rate, its not worth it to use hotel awards in BKK for me, as I will save those for destinations with a $200+/night price tag (many such unfortunately these days...).
