Hi Guys,
I'm looking for a friendly hotel on Sukumvit btween Soi Zero and Soi Cowboy. We usually stay at the Grottino or Town Lodge and they are great but might be booked. We are arriving on the 1st of Januaury.
I'm travelling with a friend and he's a neebie. I've finally convinced him to go and he's ready but a little timid so the Nana Hotel or it's immediate surroundings would just be too much for him. 
Of course budget is another issue with the Baht killing the yankee dollar as it's doing today, yikers! Hopefully somebody will know of a good place in that's 1,100 to 1,600/night range. Any help is greatly appreciated!

You might try the Manhattan on soi 15 or Grand Business Inn on Soi 11. That way, you can head in either direction for Nana or Soi Cowboy. I read RTB saying that there are still rooms at Town Lodge. Stayed there and thought it was good value but far down the soi.

Eg, Nana, Manhattan, Swiss Park, Majestic Suites etc. Other smaller unknown hotels may be available.
Town Lodge have rooms available during the new year period.

Also you could try the following :Stable Lodge Soi 8, The Promenade Hotel Soi 8, The Dynasty Soi 5, and the Premier Travel LodgeSoi 8, nothing flash.
I`d look at the Dynasty then Stable Lodge in order after that its up to you

The Dynasty is on Soi 4, about a 45 second walk to NEP. http://www.dynastyinn.com/ They might be booked, but you can always check.
The Ambassador hotel between NEP and cowboy usually has rooms available, not sure about guest friendlyness though.

I noticed that Mel Gibson opened another value discussion. Any other recommendations in the 900-1000 baht range in the Sukhumvit area?

On Soi 8, Royal Asia Lodge is a good deal. With swimming pool. Around 1500 Baht.

Some people say that Royal Asia Lodge is a bit worn out... but pool, that's fine...
I found "Grand Business Inn" on Soi 11 quite interesting... Opened late 2004. Starting from around 1500 through some booking sites...
Citadines Apart Hotel, Soi 16, just opening the other day with good opening discount and probably has some vacancy left... go search
Didn't stay in any of them though...

True. I think it depends on the room. The room I had last year was fine. This year's was admittedly a little worn (but OK).
