BTW the cops who chose to fight with the Yubamrung brothers and their own police friends, formerly worked for Chalerm, their father, former Minister of Justice, former Deputy Minister of Interior.
And my issue with oldhand is not the merits of the matter, to which I doubt he is privy beyond the poison pen of the media. His post had nothing to do with that, he gratuitously insulted me and my friends and prejudged the matter without recourse to the facts.
What an asshole!

Thaksin made his first real money on satellite contracts and cable deals he got from then Minister of Communications -- wait for it -- Chalerm Yubamrung in the Chatchai adminstratrion. Even more than from the late Pii Jod (supreme commander at the time).
And Chalerm, a former Captain of Special Branch, National Police, has always been the "J Edgar" of LOS in sense of keeping private files and knowing where the skeletons are to be found in everyone's closets -- especially politicians, tycoons, publishers and editors. In short he is the foremost political blackmail artist in Thailand and performed such services first for Chatichai and then for Chavalit.
Absolutely the media is out to avenge the many times Chalerm held THEIR feet to the fire, but you should not underestimate the extend to which Thaksin now has a stranglehold on the "free press" personally, financially and governmentally.
It is very likely that Chalerm can document the corrupt and venal ways that Thaksin, a former police pan tho in contracts office, used his position to launch hus "wife's" business while still wearing the uniform...Special Branch has ways of knowing these things...
