Yesterday evening, 14 August, Q bar was raided by our friends in brown. At around 12.15 AM the doors were closed to go either in or out. All, including farang, visitors were asked for passport and tested for drugs used.
Buses were ready to transport all without ID to police or immigration quarters....
Non of the guests were tested positive.
It was obvious that the men in charge of the raid were told to come up with results, many things were tried but all seemed to be clean.
Sorry but my reaction is: 'f_ck them!!!!"
1 AM closure is as bad as it gets but closing a major and popular club down like this is total crazy!!
BTW, most of the people being transported away were actual tourists.. What does that say about the TAT efforts to get more and wealthier tourists to Thailand?

They raided sevral places in silom 4 last weekend testing all Thai girls for drugs letting the farrangs go home after check. The police told all people there that they are going to close at 01.00 untill the election or at least untill CHUWIT wins. All girls went clear but the DJ a german guy wne in for having half a E and have to Bail 200 000 THB second day. The week before they went to Qbar as well no raid just closed it early 00.00.
If the owner pay the money to the new police station you are fine but if you not you better have the pee cup ready

I think its up to the place and the guy in brown in that moment. If he wants I guess even a passport will do. For the silom bar he did not even check the non thai he just let them go. So would say that you can answer that but HEY he can not arrest some bloody tourists so I do not really belive that he will drag them to police and charge them money. I mean if you have your passport they can make a copy and make problem later if you do not have it they can just let you go.

You can make bet that they are neither 'stupid' nor 'crazy'. Such power-plays do not come about because someone in the precinct is sitting around saying "there's nothing good on TV tonight, why don't we raid Q Bar."
There's a reason, and the reason can be as simple as Mafia territorial shakedown or as complex as tucked away in BKKsexy's statement above, i.e. staging a fix for Chuwit by making any alternative to his election positively draconian.

Copies of passports were accepted at the Q bar raid. According to what I have heard they needed to be accompagnied by a copy of the visa and visa stamp.
All farangs who were unable to succesfully identify themselves to police were detained and bussed away. 3 Guys called a friend to bring passports from their hotel. At arrival of the passports they were let go with a slap on the wrist. However, than they requested to see the passport of the messenger. He did not bring it as he was sound asleep and just thought about getting his mates out of detention. He got detained.....
the whole raid at Q lasted for 3 (!) hours. Starting at 00.15 AM and ending just after 3 AM.
'Rumours' at Q state that it was directed from high up in the government and the police was instructed to make any arrests high profile. They needed to be succesfull for political benefit!! It was when they could only find foreigners without ID, and no drugs use, that they were looking for other offences. They tried silly things but failed to make any arrests.
Thing is, Bangkok is being promoted as a tourist destination. As Q bar is not part of the Nana, Patpong etc. seedy tourist area, question remains why to target those bars. Drugs use should be dealt with at it roots, being the dealers. Was it not this government recently stating that it was going to treat users as victims?

Q Bar is always being busted. So much so that I just don't go there anymore. Who wants to have your evening ruined by having to queue up for 2 hours to piss in a bottle.
Again a rumour so don't shoot me down in flames if it ain't true. An acquaintance says he knows the American owners well. Q Bar is targetted because of it's high profile thai clientele plus there have been problems in the past with paying enough to all the different sets of boys in brown.
