TGs from upcountry that you see in Bangkok or Pattaya - it is easy to get the impression that they think somewhat like us (a little bit?) but I am convinced that much of the western thought they portray is fake or learned or being polite. They do not think like we do. They do not have the same concept of truth we do, and we do not live with the concepts of boon khun and kreng jai. We think about money differently than them. We are a mismatch in these respects.
I used to imagine a TG living in the western world as something they would enjoy. All the pleasures of life, yadda, yadda, yadda. But they would enjoy it about as much as I would enjoy living in their world (not Bangkok but Nakhorn Nowhere!) Simple things like planning how to take a shit. Me squatting over some bug infested hole in the ground - not pleasant but I'd get used to it. The TG using a toilet in Amereka? It doesn't have a hose to clean their ass after they shit? A TG think this is disgustingly dirty. "Why farang walk around with shit on their ass?" 555
But anything is tolerable and anyone can adapt for a little while if they keep any eye on whatever the big picture is for them, whether it be money, security, etc. for them, or "whatever" for us (still haven't figured it out yet).
Exceptions? Sure. But rare, I believe that they are far fewer than people think. The ability to "re-wire" your brain (which we or them NEED to do) is something that does not come easy nor is it something that is attractive to us or them, in general.

Ohh so true... The common plattform - if you ever establish one with a regular - is very very small and works only within very limited parameters, like sanook, going out, holidays, bars, Hotel pools etc...

Maybe it involves a lot of watching TV - cartoons and three-stooges would be favorites, I bet. 
There is a uni-student that stayed at my place 1 day, 2 nights. While I was gone to work, she did some work on my computer, slept, watched cartoons and soap operas and talked on the phone to her boyfriend. A full and fulfilling day for her.

I always used to wonder why the thai guy who owned the company I worked for always treated the girls like shit. it took me a while to really understand things, but I am still way down on the understanding scale.... and I agree on why..... our brains are already wired a certain way..... through the years I have figured out that one has to have a cold heart to stay with a thai girl, be ready to take the hard line, boot them out, ignore them and move on.... our version of love? no, but it is the reality for Thais.... this is what they know..... all that being said, is there anyhting better in the world than to wake up with a 20 yo beauty with that firm body, loving attention.... ohhhhhhhh. go to go now, and take care of some business.......

When you have a chance, try to figure out what 'our version of love' really is... aside from all the romantic BS dumped on us by the media, romance novels, and other CURRENT social influences. Our society has 'romanticized' love into an unrealistic and surreal construct that we pursue but which is unachievable. i actually like the hose with the back up of paper. As someone said to me once.
If you had a lump of Sh*t on your finger would you wash it off or wipe it off.
