hello,
does anyone know what tour company is the best to raft and ride elephant in the jungle? and how much I should pay?
I will be staying at the Sheraton Chiang Mai..thanks very much..

I went back to my notes from May 2004 when I was in Chiang Mai. We booked an all-day tour to do the following:
8-9 Orchid Farm
10:30 Elephant Ride
12 Hmong Village
3 Karen Village
4 Maewang Water Fall and Raft Trip
6 Back to Hotel

This is a 4x4 trip.
Great trip. Tour operator delivered as promised and more. I would use them again. Don't know if they are the best, but we were happy. Booked from our hotel - BP Chiang Mai Hotel. Only part I would have skipped was the Orchid Farm.
Some suggestions if you haven't done an elephant ride before:
1) buy some bananas if they are offered and feed the elephant. I didn't on my first ride and the damn thing tried to hit me with a branch because he saw other elephants being fed;
2) wear something that you don't mind getting a bit stained, just in case they don't wash off the elephant too well before you get on.
The raft we were on consisted of 8 bamboo "logs" wrapped together. My feet got quite wet. But, a beautiful 1 hour trip.

hire a car for around 1000 a day and drive to small towns close by. Lampang is nice. They have a great elephant hospital place just outside town.

Met a VERY nice taxi driver during my time in Chiang Mai. I highly recommend him if you are looking for a nice car and someone who speaks fairly good Engrish. I think the cost was 2k baht or less for two people. That included gas but he took us everywhere we could possibly want to go. No climbing and and out of a minibus but a nice air conditioned car. Wonderful experience. Send me a PM if you want his name. He also took the tgf to get her passport in Chiang Mai.

The 4x4 tour cost us bt2500 for all day a year ago.
The hot springs is not suitable for any kind of bathing, and I don't remember seeing a spa.
The thing that is interesting at the hotsprings though is......remember that luck, and superstition play a big part in Thai life..............to buy some eggs, either chicken, or quail, they have them in bamboo holders to buy, boil them in the hotsprings, then eat them....for luck, and protection.
Don't miss the pandas, from the news, they mated last week.........happy pandas......lol.
