If you want some action in Taipai. go to a barber shop. not the ones that you can see the barbers at work, but the ones with painted over windows. these are brothels,but if you're not Chinese expect to be turned away, most think all westerners especially Americans have AIDS.
There are gobs of local Chinese highrollers and unless you have a big bankroll forget about competing. Thailand is so much better why waste your time unless your'e there on business

Happy that was recently about the betal nut girls, they passed a law on Oct. 1st saying they should cover up, I expect it to last about a week.
As far as barber shops in Taiwan, I'd beware, you will usually get the older women, has expereince but is butt ugly. And some of these places are real sleeze holes, if you walk in and don't like what you see and try to leave, they may force you to stay or pay up. Find a local to help you, or look in the newspapers it's safer.

I went to a "barber shop" in Beijing back in the January, we met a cab driver that spoke a little english and he took us to about 5 or 6 barber shops in the back alleys there. I finally spied a cutie and decided to stay for a good time, she took me upstairs to a DIRTY room and before I could say anything she had hiked her shirt and skirt up and had my pants down to my knees and was putting a condom on me. She then proceeded to have her way with me and the whole process from the time I entered the barber shop until I left it was about 10 minutes, she was very good at what she did. The price changed after we did the deed and when I paid her she was out the door in a flash. (my guess would be to her drug dealer) So there I was in some back alley in Beijing with no idea where my hotel was, I was quite worried but before long my cab driver came back and took me to the hotel. Another 100 RMB for the cab ride ($20.00 USD) The whole experience was not that good but it made it a 3rd country for this vacation. China, Thailand and Cambodia, by far LOS was the best and most memorable.
