Ok, I will be going to Cambodia for the first time for a week. I am more interested in hotels that are guest friendly. The other stuff I do fine on my own, and quite well. In Siem Reap, 3 days, I am contemplating the Ta Prohm Hotel. I don't want a backpacker type of hotel, clean, secured, good locale, safe in the room highly desired, but limited budget, $50 tops. I will always book a double room, thanks to everyone's suggestions. I believe this one is located where there is a lot of action. I was in Laos last summer, Luang Prabang, and had one of the hotel workers show me the highlights. Not very impressive, bamboo quarters which I can do without. Not interested in the 18 and below stuff. Any suggestions? No philosophical dialogues, just info from someone who really knows.
Then it is on to Phnom Penh, 4 days. I liked the Casa Hotel as the nightclub is suppose to be better class women. I heard $20 - $70 for LT. Double room is $50. Who can give me a real answer for LT? Is this hotel GF? Then I looked at the New York Hotel, affordable and situated right in town.
My trip is being paid for, but I am on a budget. So if anyone really knows I would appreciate advice. BTW, most of my time will be spend in BKK, with short trips to Ayutthaya, Sukhothai and then Pattaya at the end. This will be my third trip to Southeast Asia, been to Vietnam too.

If your hotel budget is US$50/day, you'll have no problem finding nice accomodations. I was in PP back in November 2003 and stayed at Cafe California 2 Guesthouse. The rooms were pretty basic but they were clean (I would rank it a 2-star), the owner and staff friendly, and the location great for bars and restaurants. Cost about US$15-25/night. The owner is from San Diego, California - hence, his kitchen makes fish tacos.

Not sure about LT but I was told most girls at Walkabout and the major clubs will go LT for US$20.

Thanks for your reply. I have seen the web site of the California Hotel. It looks kind of funky for me. I am older, so I like a decent room and would like to have a room safe. I am kind of leaning towards the New York Hotel, as it has good locale. I will check out the fish tacos at the California. Do you have any suggestions for Siem Reap? I am looking at the Ta Prohm Hotel. Seems to have a good locale. let me know and thanks for your help.

I`ve stayed at the California 2 hotel several times now,great spot,close to every thing,rooms are clean and basic with a/c,fridge and tv.
No problems bringing in a girl.
LT prices at Martinies,Sharkies and Walkabout $20 usd,st $10 usd.
Price of room $15 usd per night.
Prices are current as I was last in PP end of Jan 2004.
and the girls are good to go !
