Man gets three-month jail term for blasphemy

DUBAI — A Briton has been handed a three-month jail term by the Dubai Criminal Court for using vulgar and abusive language against the religion of his taxi driver.
He was also slapped with a fine of Dh1,000 for consuming liquor in a public place.
According to the court records, the 23-year-old accused, G.M., consumed alcohol at a hotel in Deira on December 18, 2006, and left the hotel for Al Mankhool area in Bur Dubai in a taxi. While in the cab, he began abusing the taxi driver and his religion.
The driver stopped the car and called the police.
The Briton was arrested by the police and referred to the Public Prosecution.
During his questioning, the Briton said he did not remember the words he had used, but said he had a liquor permit to consume alcohol inside his residence.
When cross-examined at the court, he denied having blasphemed, but confessed to drinking in the public.

Dubai - Prostitutes arrested
Dubai - Four Filipinas were arrested after propositioning undercover CID officers at a nightclub in Karama. A source close to the case said the incident happened after they negotiated a price of dhs600 for their services.
When they left the club with their prospective clients they were taken to two cars where additional undercover officers posed as drivers. Three got into one car and one got into the other thinking they were being taken to a prearranged address. However, they were driven straight to jail, where they have resided since last Thursday while their case is investigated.
The move is part of an ongoing crackdown by the authorities on prostitution, which saw 4,000 women deported last year.
The unusual thing here, while this has been going on for some time this is the first newspaper report I have seen on a specific incident.

Thursday Seaview – Second Set.
The evening started out well enough, I met some colleagues at the Music Room and had a few reasonably priced drinks and both bands were in good form. I am developing quite a “crush” on one of the “Rock Spiders” singers. There were around four Russians who were probably on the game, including two T52’s
It all started to go down hill when the other guys decided they wanted to go to the Seaview. We arrived around the start of the Second set, about 11:45. Probably with the added impetus of Friday being dry the place was packed. At one stage, trying to find somewhere remotely comfortable to stand at one stage we ended up by the pool table. Why on such a crowded night they did not cover it up? If I had been jabbed by a cue one more time I may have lost it.  It can’t have been much fun for the players either, but they persisted.
Next all hell breaks out  and two guys were ejected by security, hard to tell what was happening as it was so crowded but they seemed to be resisting and security probably crossed the line of reasonable force. It looked like one guy may have been knocked out.
I left shortly after leaving my colleagues chatting to some PRC’s  On the way out I heard the manager telling the security OK the police are here. I don’t know what happened then, but my colleague did not get in ‘till much later so I can postscript this report if anything significant happened.
Other than that it was OK. “Miss Phone” was looking good in shorts and boots, there were the usual ‘Stani brigade. There were most of the regular PRC and some new faces and a few Africans. The Filipinas seem to be out in force, but most are so short they were lost in the crowd. I think I spotted 50/50’s “mythical” mega rack Filipina. (Surly there can’t be two!)
As 11Bravo has often said – the only sensible policy for Thursday is incall!

I agree with BC, it is not so much the sting that is new, it is the publishing in the paper.
Of course, this jibes with the "new open attitude" towards eliminating the human slave trade. When it was camel jockeys, they built a robot jockey, one must wonder if the DXB folks will be importing "realdolls" (www.realdoll.com) to keep the local boys happy.
There was a great BBC documentary about guys who keep these things, it can be found via torrents, the title is "Guys And Dolls_Adult Sex Dolls_Documentary_UK_2006"

Not so sure. I've lived in Dubai over five years, and can remember stings being reported from when I arrived here. But yes, there has been more press about stings in recent years.
And yes, it's not just words, but also action nowadays. There are less WGs around in the last year or so, and especially in the past few months. But anyone who lives here knows there will always be more supply than demand. There will always be more than enough girls to go around, to keep the international businessmen (and locals) happy.
As I said on the other forum that many of us belong to, it's a good thing that Dubai has finally been forced to admit to and deal with human trafficking. There will always be more than enough independent girls to go around. Who wants to f*** a slave anyway? (I'm not talking fetish role-play here. That's good fun).
So, prices will go up a bit more in general (unless you have some regulars), but mongering is still cheaper than golf, much more fun, and better exersize.

I agree with you there. You could argue it's all shaded of grey but my main criteria for an Independent.
- A girl who is free to make the choice of who she goes with.
- Has no curfews or similar restrictions on her movements.
- There is no negotiation or payment directly to third parties involved
- She can leave the country when she wishes (has her passport in her possession)
