Quote BarCrawler: A friend told me he was at the Rattlesnake recently and was charged “because he got there too late”; he was under the impression that if you arrived early you could escape the entrance charges. Can anyone confirm if this is true or not? ______________________ Yep: 35DH after 9pm. One "free" drink Saturday-Wednesday nights. No "free" drink on weekends (Thurs/Friday). No racial policy on entry fees - *everyone* pays.

Quote BarCrawler Long's Bar....It looked like there may have been some P4P going on, but very low key. The place is still 99% civilian as far as I can see.
Earlier part of the night, Long's bar is 1% P4P. After midnight, about 15% p4p. Also lots of trolley dolleys out for fun. _______ Calzoid - altho' Rattler is close to my place and a fave hangout, I think I'll stay home tonight to nurse my aching head. Last night at Finnegans was a big night, including breaking up a serious fight, where my group had to escape into the nearby Indian Club, as police had been called. All due to the driver of one of my friends being caught stealing a mobile phone from a local guy who was with a group of his friends. (I have to add I don't know the driver - the stupid fool - he was tagging along). Luckily I know one of the locals in the angry group quite well (he's a pool-playing friend of mine, and a nice guy). Between the two of us, we managed to save the driver's stupid ass from being beaten black and blue by a bunch of big locals. My friend's driver denied stealing the phone, but was caught throwing it under a car (it was later recovered by the owner). I gave him a severe admonishing, and told his employer never to bring him again. As we left the Indian Mujra Club just before 3am, we passed about 30 girls leaving Amnesia - even the girls that didn't manage to pick up a customer were gorgeous. Too bad about the 200DH entry fee.

No problem - Thanks for the response. Wow a fight in Dubai - didnt think that happened here - was just talking about that a few hours ago -usually fights occur over women -this being a P4P enviorment (Dubai) I just fiqured is someone moves in on your stash you just look over to your right or left and easily find a replacement Stealing a cellphone - not bright - then again there is alot of the "not very bright" activity here. Just finished up a ST from Panorma - some decent talent in there tonight - quite a few new Stani's - I optioned for the PRC buffet. CZ

I was there again on Thursday, this time with colleagues. We left just before midnight. Clientele was 90% male. Two PRC's and 1 Stani, probably P4P. Maybe we should have stayed longer. But it was tedious really, lots of work talk and a thick head the next day and a reminder why I often excuse myself from these works get togethers.

I saw my first fight for a longtime a couple of weeks ago at the Seaview. They are not as common as, say, back home in the UK, but the average age of the people in the bars here is a lot older. 18- 30 year olds seem to be the serious scrappers. And one can safely assume the LE here will not be pleasant, and that is a deterrent.

Wonder when the "road rage" is going to kick in. I justr started driving here a month ago and there have been a few occassions where I would of loved to pull a driver from thier car and introduce them to the pavement. If I had a dirham for eerytime I was cutoff or had to slam the bracks cause a local "drifted" in front of me I could retire. I really did not want to get a car but recently moved to SZR and catching a cab at 4-5pm from Diera - SZR is next to impossible. cz

Driving in Dubai ____________ Calzoid, I don't normally drive much. In fact I hate driving (especially in Dubai) and I have no interest in cars. I almost always take cabs. However, at the insistence of Wildcat wifey, I finally gave up my old bomb (which has been sitting neglected for months) and bought a new car last week. I'm seriously thinking of selling it already and going back to cabs. Until I bought the new car, I was paying about 1200DH a month on cabs (using cabs every day). Sounds a lot, but now I'll be paying car payments (1300/month), plus petrol, registration, insurance, inevitable speeding tickets, maintenance, repairs and parking fines. Plus driving stress, getting lost when I have to find somewhere I haven't been before, and parking problems. Add to that I still pay for cabs whenever I want to go out for fun and a drink (which is only 5 nights a week ). As for problems getting a cab - no problems. Whenever I found a good cabbie, I would ask for his mobile number. I collected a few reliable and safe-driving cabbies' numbers, and simply had to call one of them 30 minutes before needed, then enjoy a stress-free drive to work while I read my notes for the day, made phone calls or just relaxed and chatted. A healthy regular tip ensured priority service. ("Yes Mr. Piper, I will be there straight away"). Why do I ever listen to my wife? (Psssk - Anyone want to buy a good car?)

In all fairness not just the locals, expats, from all over, are often guilty. Aggressive cutting up is one thing but the "SZR drift" is one that erks me, the prime cause - a mobile phone, invariably the cause when you see someone having trouble staying in the centre of the lane. This morning there was a prime example of rubber necking. SZR was coming to a stand still between the Mall of the Emirates and the Hard Rock – Why? Two ambulances and a police car were stopped out side a building on one of the parallel roads and everyone was slowing down to take a look. As we passed the road cleared, but the car in front of me was still doing 50 Kms/ hour with the driver straining to see if he could see anything. -Idiots.
