I am not sure which is making me squirm more - the closing of WG Bars or lasering of private parts !
I think Dubai's ego is getting a little a head of itself - it must think that its reached NY/Sidney/London status with the expulsion of "undesireables" - NOT. The only problem is that there are few women here in Bars that aren't working, the civilians that are here come no where close in numbers to thier male counterparts. I was at the Long Bar the other night and there were 5 girls 2 working, three civilans were surronded by 20 guys.
Yeah I know there are many bars that are civilian only - but if you had to rely on that as your only meal - most of us will go hungry.
I see bar fights increasing - lack of pussy makes a man very brave and irritable 
Maybe I should start flirting with girls at work - if I could only see thier faces through thier veils.
Anyone know where the Lebanese girls hang out - ones it thier 30's and 40's ?????
This place is over priced and boring enough as is - what to do if the WG's depart - hmmmm maybe I will try to better assimilate into the culture - perhaps a religious transformation, maybe a weekend trip to Saudi to watch a beheading or two.
I wonder what the economic impact would be - fewer Hotlel Bookings? Has this really become such a tourist attraction that they can eliminate this type of entertainment. Of all the places I have been to the world - Dubai wouldnt make my top 15 vacation destinations.
Maybe I am missing something - why else would someone come to Dubai other than no taxes-make/save money/get laid?

true, living here has its advantages but im one of the lucky ones I travel a lot so I get to leave every week too
but certainly it wouldnt be my first choice for a holiday
sun sand sea and sex available anywhere else in the world for far better prices, even better beaches too (not hard when u consider dubai only has ONE beach, and thats if u can get too it)

For Civilians, try Scarlet's in the Emirates Towers on a Tuesday (Ladies Night), or a Saturday (Salsa Night). There is often plenty of eye candy. I have also seen some very attractive ladies entering the 400 club in the Fairmont at the weekend. (also bouncers and ropes out side to make the place look exclusive, reminds me of the club in "The Mask").
There are worse postings in my company, Khartoum anyone? But like snpark, I do get to travel a lot.
re P4P bar closures, it's not the first time it's happened, and it's probably a symbolic gesture by the LE to prove they are doing something - Time will tell

Yes, even in KSA there are possibilities. The question is, are bars like the Cyclone now too much “in your face”? Things always change and dedicated WG’s and Mongers will always find their way around things.
The demise of the bar scene (Again I am NOT saying this is going to happen) would certainly reduce demand as well as supply and may not have quite as severe an upward pressure on prices one may at first anticipate. Most casual mongers would not bother if they had to go through the rigmarole and risk of visiting an MP or had to hunt down the information to arrange an in-call. The male demographic profile and the availability of WG’s in the bars, together with the atmosphere of the bars make DXB the ideal environment for impulsive mongering. How many guys go out for a drink and a “laugh” with friends or colleagues and end up with an unplanned takeaway. I lot, I would say.

Glad to know I am not the only one. I have never really understood the draw, its too hot most of the time, too much traffic all of the time, too expensive, and after the first couple trips, loses its novelty.
I come for the money, the wide variety of P4P is a real bonus
As for tourism: "only mad dogs and Englishmen..." and it would take one, only one, small terror incident, and the house of cards would fall IMHO.
"Dreams" and "visions" can also be illusions.
