Rumour Control
The rumour doing the rounds within the branch of the CIA Miss DJ has links to is the Cyclone closure is permanent. She said it was in one of the newspapers, but I have not found it on line.
I was also told that a lot of PRC’s are looking for alternatives to DXB with some looking in to visa options for Qatar and Bahrain and brainstorming for other destinations. For many the shit bucket is now filling up much faster than the money bucket.
DXB for the Expat – another perspective.
I heard an interesting observation over the week end that fits in with the debate we have been having. A British guy was saying that while DXB has more to offer than the rest of the Sand Lands it is considerable harder to build a social life outside of work. In other places were there is little entertainment and a smaller core of expats, they tend to club together and instinctively welcome newcomers into their circle, here that does not happen as the place is too big an cosmopolitan. This removes, what for some, is an attraction of the expat life style. Here you have to build your circle of friends in much the same way as one would if you moved between cities in your home country.
I am lucky here, my company has, in addition to the people who work locally there are many passing through. A lot of these I have known for years, so I get many get togethers to catch up and talk about “the time when”.

True, in spite of your undoubted charm, what she was looking for was a regular gig, once or twice a week which would be flexible enough to fit around her sometime hectic day job schedule to earn a bit of extra cash without going to the clubs.
I fit that profile, except travelling is probably a little too frequent. Me, I was looking for a classy girl I can take out without raising too many eyebrows. So we both got lucky that night.

Well put. How long have you been here? For me, first year was living an adolescent's fantasy: so many beautiful women I COULD have - just a bit of cash. 2nd year, still fun. 3rd, bit repititious. 4th year... like you say... 5th year... I pull on a weekend just to differentiate from a weekday. It's certainly NOT that that the quality of wg's has deteriorated - for sure it's my own point of view. I KNOW I can hit just about any club and find several to chose from, ones that I do find interesting. But not a big deal, and as you said, very repetitious. Well, at least I get a home cooked meal out of it, and a bit of feminine (as compared to bachelor) cleaning.

I have been here for 9 months - yes definately a rookie to Dubai - but I just left the minors (Philippines) where I was for 1 1/2 years - with long stays in LOS.
I truly enjoy the expat lifestyle - the diffence I find here is that there is no real alternative to P4P, yes I have been to all the bars mentioned that are not P4P - to much effort with little chance of reward - I spend in cab fare getting to these places as much as I would drinking elsewhere in Bars.
My contract here is open ended - could probaly stay as long as I like - the social life here will not impact my decesion -as many have said -its not that bad. IMHO its OK - again here for the money.

I think lots of them go on Friday afternoons from quite early, say 3 onwards. A very good turnout. There are always a good few guys having a weekend bevvy, who start to get beer goggles on by early evening, so the pickings must be pretty rich for the girls. They can do a quickie at teatime and be back in time for the night shift.

I'm very lucky in my apartment block. It's only three floors and very quiet. I only run into the neighbours once in a blue moon, so I've hardly ever had any embarrassment getting the girls in and out. But on my floor there's one apartment with a large Sikh family living in it.
A couple of years ago, in the little downstairs bar of the York, I ran across an absolute stunner PRC. Everything about her said, in fact bellowed, "hooker". I was on my way to meet colleagues, but I had to get her number. I called her the next Friday lunchtime at about 2 pm and she asked me to meet her in half an hour outside the Astoria (the only landmark she knew in Bur Dubai!) She was dressed in the same outfit with black sunglasses. She looked sensationally horny. I drove her back to my place, we got in the lift and started snogging furiously. She was highly enthusiastic! Then there's the guy who lives directly opposite me. Quite elderly, maybe Syrian or Iranian. Very nice guy - we always pass the time on the very few occasions we meet, although he speaks hardly any English and I know nothing of his language. One night I came home at about midnight. Was waiting for the lift on the ground floor when the door from the garage opened and this really tough looking CRS hooker came in. She stopped dead when she saw me, unsure what to do next. The old guy came in behind her and he too was visibly embarrassed. The lift opened and I waved them in. I wanted to go out of my way to be friendly, to show them that it was no problem at all as far as I was concerned. I said "hello there, haven't seen you for a while. Have you been away?"
He said "no, I'm just giving her a lift home from work"!

I agree with 11Bravo and and others regarding the 'kid in candy store' syndome that hits you in the face when you first arrive in Dubai. In my first year here I was single and suddenly getting paid way too much. This co-incided with discovering very friendly girls at bars who seemed to like me too much (but always asked for a few hundred dirhams in return for liking me too much). 
In my first year I probably partied and 'entertained' girls 3-4 long nights a week. (That's before I discovered this forum - and I didn't take photos in those days).
Now, more than five years later, married and with a little rascal, the novelty of mongering has worn off a little (but more so - opportunites to play are much more limited). Yes, expat life can be lonely. I'm lucky that I have a family in Dubai (including a wife who tolerates my juvenile delinquency from time to time.
As mentioned, traffic and rent are two of the main problems in Dubai (and many people are leaving Dubai for these two reasons). When the tolls come into effect on Sheikh Zayed Road in July, my travel time to my office will probably increase from 20 minutes to 45 minutes, as thousands of cars each day avoid the tolls and take the main road near my place.
Rent has increased an average of 40% each year in the last two years. That's an average. For some people rent has doubled. In my case, 40%. Luckily I found my place at a good rental rate two years ago, so I'm still paying less than current market value.
The other thing that riles us westerners is the legalized slave trade (ie people from subcontinent etc being paid a pittance for long hours of hard work, passports being held by employers, etc). Even this has started to change in the last year or so. It will never be as equal as in the west, but labor laws and even unions are starting to be introduced, and yes, implemented, due to international pressure and Dubai's desire to be part of the international economy. It will take another generation for a real difference to be seen, but I'm pretty certain the changes will be significant. The joys of globalization.
I'll probably stick around here a few more years.

A few weeks ago I was in Double Deckers with some colleagues, two of which started to chat up a couple of reasonably attractive British girls. They were certainly not being given the brush off, but after a while the came back proclaiming “F£$% That – it’s just too much effort and let’s go to the Seaview”. Others have had dates with civilians, Filipinas in particular; usually they are not up far a one night stand but rather looking for a relationship.
Golf and Sailing seem to be the diversions of choice for many. But you have to be really keen to play golf in Dubai in July!
Fujarah is worth a visit on the weekend, much better beaches than Dubai and no crowds, apparently there is some good diving on the Indian Ocean coast. You could do it as a day trip but the radio has been offering some good deals at Le Méridien Al Aqah hotel, (nice place to stay if you have company)
I wonder what the GF status would be if you booked a double and turned up with you “partner” and checked her in as a bone fide guest has anyone on the board ever tried.

Sounds like "Lucy"... she had a similiar outfit. Surprisingly sweet...
Have never really had a "walk of shame" given I have my own entrance. However, it ALWAYS seems the ONLY time I run into the gardner, watchman, or arriving repairman is when SHE is walking out the front door to catch a taxi... This morning, not different. She wanted to sleep in. By the time she walking out the door, here comes the repairman and his assistant (what, he can't carry his own toolbag?)...

In the days before I had GF accomodation I became very familiar with a building in the Golden Sands area of Bur Dubai.
The first time I visited at 2AM with two Russian girls from the Regal, They were freelancers sharing a flat. We were stopped by the security I had to produce ID and was duly logged into the building regester as a guest.
A while later I had a Kyrgie regular from Jockey's. Lots of the Jockeys CIS lived in one appartment in the same building and would slip security 30 AED a time to let guests in. But there was often a bit of unconfortable dilliy dalling in reception.
Later, my long time PRC ex-regular, the now retired "Cappy" moved in for a while. No men allowed in the PRC appartment, but she would call me up and get me to come around an pick up a dinner she had cooked for me. I got enough funny looks from the security before, but a PRC girl coming down in a dressing gown to give me bags of food was a little beyond their comprehension.

Executive Summary: Mostly PRC's (typical bell shaped curve from "not attractive" to "stunning " ), wide range of blacks (from "2 zip code asses" to slender ), smattering of CIS. If you had an appetite for asian, or african, no problems; the CIS a bit sparse.

Decided to visit Rattlesnake Friday night. Arrived 10:30, had to park in the sand. Softball games going on. Almost changed my mind when hit up for the 35 dhs entrance fee - Seaview looking mighty good. But I had decided on a 'Snake site survey, so paid my fee, and in I went. Also noticed that a simple coke had gone up from 10 dhs to 11. Besides the 10% cost increase, the odd price a bit frustrating. I don't mind tipping the bartender (especially when he remembers me), but these odd numbers just irk me as if management knows most punters will leave coins...
Inside, even at 10:30, not all that crowded. The usual large contingent of work ethic PRC's, some Africans, and a FEW CIS. Immediately spotted Miss S, a former Miss Thursday who had moved on up to the Cyclone, leaving my paltry 500/LT in the dust. Good for her. She literally gave a squeal of delight on seeing me, running over to thump me for not letting her know I was back in town. Debatable if she was available at my price THIS night, and I really wasn't in the market for a known... after all, I could simply call her, saving myself 35 dhs. But she was her usual flirty self, very nice.
She introduced me to her newly arrived sister; VERY attractive. In the mixed light, almost looked like she had freckles. Sis, after the usual litany, asked me if I wanted to step outside. Feigning ignorance, I asked her why. "Go your house..." But there was just something about the directness... hell, I do like a little foreplay to put me in the mood. None here. When I didn't IMMEDIATELY respond in the affirmative, she QUICKLY moved on.
Another obvious Cyclone refugee came over to say hi to Miss S. Had the Cyclone a-list outfit: low cut jeans, scoop tank top showing some nice cleavage. But the bored, business look discouraged any advances from me (as if my ceiling would ever meet her floor...) Last I saw, at 1am, she was propped against a wall, same look... (to her credit, I'm sure it's a rare evening she does go home alone - her aloofness from my perspective just confidence from hers).
Seeing a rather stunningly tall PRC, and her side-kick, also very nice, also obviously Cyclone refugees, went over for a closer look. Although they were displaced from the home office physically, they certainly maintained their Cyclone attitude. I did not show up in their world at all, their targeting radars easily overlooking my chaff, the small wallet cloak securely wrapped around me.
Some cute PRC's, new faces, but not in the mood for any newbie scene, so brushed off the job interviews. Some attractive blacks arrived, some more CIS (no standouts), and by 11:30, it was getting difficult to reach the bar for a drink (yes, I know the service path, but just as a crowd gauge).
If I was still there by 12:00, those that know me know I was not having a good night. Just didn't see anyone really COMPELLING... My thoughts kept coming back to "Sis", so, on seeing she was still around, walked by, and said I was leaving. She asked if she could go with me; I asked how much, and she suggested we step outside into a quieter atmosphere. Actually not really encouraging... been a long time since I've had to deal with price negotiations. In the entrance, repeated my question, her response being an IMMEDIATE 500. While I might have thought that Miss S had provided my specs, there was just something... So I simply asked, LT? Noooooo, ST. Her counter-offer surprised me: I could have her friend for 500/LT. Her? LT mooorrrrrre money. I declined the friend offer; newbie friend fine for another occasion. I knew if I did accept tonight, I would spend the night thinking about Sis, wondering what she was like, so passed. Bit irked when she then asked "why?", but certainly highlighted her customer/server attitude. Sis might have the edge in looks, but can't compete with Miss S's personality.
Back inside, saw Miss S, jokingly telling her perhaps I'd be off to Seaview, 'Snake prices too much. She, thinking I was serious, looked at her watch, saying I did have time (approaching 1am)... Just about then, she, Sis, and another got pulled in by a 4th girlfriend; her date's 3 male friends also looking for some company. There went the Miss S option...
I was just about to head home alone, thinking I'd be making use of the Saturday afternoon reliever pitching staff, when up "she" popped again. Now "she" was a mature PRC I'd spotted quite a bit earlier... very stylishly attired, but, given the crowd, had never managed to go over and initiate a chat. She was standing across the aisle, in front of me.
Here, I made a newbie mistake: waiting for her to turn around and make eye contact. Before she did, a 3-some came down the stairs, 2 guys and a girl. The "dated" guy pointed Miss Mature out to his friend, they exchanged some words, and damn it, off they went, back up the stairs to the pool tables. Besides the Cyclone swing and a miss strike-outs, now twice caught looking as the 3rd strike called. That afternoon phone list looking mighty good.
But then, back down the stairs comes Miss Mature. Obviously, the deal had not been struck. I QUICKLY stepped over, saying "hi" (there had been talk on a forum of exactly how do you approach them). The usual litany, she saying she had seen me rejecting "MANY chinese ladies", so she had not come over to chat (they are observant, and you can get mis-classified as a civilian). I simply explained that I had been waiting for her. CORNY, yes, but it got the hoped for smile.
She gave me the "let's go"; I, following my own rules, first asking for LT (yes), and a price quote. She gave me the "up to you"; she didn't like to discuss money. Yea, right, UNLESS she felt the "remuneration" insufficient the next morning (been there, done that). So asked again, which brought on the LONG story of "You've been here a long time, you know the prices..." Yes, I do; I know MY prices, but not HERS. I said 500, she said OK, and off we went; the "8 some" still milling around (more people, the coordination goes up exponentially; why I like to avoid).
On the way home, she mentioned that she never went for 500; 700 more to her liking. No problem; I could easily loop around, arriving back at the bar in 5 minutes. But I just kept silent, no more was mentioned, and I didn't take the "return loop".
No more mention of money. In the morning, did follow her statements from the previous night: just stick the money in her purse. Added a 50 for taxi fare; I will see her again.
So, long story finished: 'Snake does offer a wide selection, though there is an upward price creep. Last night, no discounts on Cyclone closeouts. But for someone still fresh to the dxb scene, plenty of selections for a night's entertainment.
