A restaurant review - so skip if you are not hungry.
I recently ate in the new Korean restaurant, “Dae Jang Kum” in the Royal Ascot Hotel. The place has been open around a week. It was very enjoyable. We started with a very good mixed shushimi - with wasabi  and then had a Korean barbequed beef served up with an endless supply of side dishes. IMHO good value at 140 AED a head including a beer.

 I got back to DXB earlier in the week. I was at a loose end Friday night so I decided to hit down-town Bur Dubai.
Jockeys 8:45 to 9:20
Not at all crowded, with a reasonable M/F ratio, presumably the Friday afternoon drinkers had already fallen off their barstools and gone home. While a few of the Bishkek Babes were around most of the best ones were missing. The rest of the CIS collection did not impress me, save for one blond (+2 for thigh boots, -1 as they were over jeans rather than with a skirt ).
From Otho’s reports I was assuming I would be too late for the tartan miniskirt / biker PRC girls, and I was right. There were a few pleasant PRC and I fell into conversation with a very nice one, good English as well as good looks and certainly one I could have easily pulled. Her friend was nice too.
Music Room 9:25 to 10:30
As previously reported, not a mongering venue, but I did notice a Jockeys PRC in there, sat quietly at table, later I saw two more who I initially thought were Filipinas, sat well back out of the way. It looks like the management is tolerating girls as long as there aren’t too many and there is no overt marketing. After the ‘Spiders first set I moved on.
York 10:40 to 11:30
It was not at all crowded, considering it was the weekend with a favourable M/F ratio. There were certainly not a lot of Cyclone refugees, a pair of tanned and bleached PRCs probably were ex Cyclone girls, but not what I would call A listers. Another PRC certainly looked like a A list Cyclone girl, she gave me the slightest of acknowledgements as I passed, it was clear she was not going to waste any effort cold calling!
There were a number of PRC that meet my definition of attractive; I talked to a few including a very tempting girl who could converse well beyond the stock phrases. There was nothing in the CIS contingent to float my boat. African numbers were down on my last visit, but there were some attractive ones amongst them. The York must still be the first port of call for those looking for African girls.
In conclusion, it was quiet out and Friday is a much better night to be out and about than a Thursday. Two PRC’s had me tempted and I would not have had trouble finding a girl to my taste.

Called up the Golden Gate, advertised as sauna & massage. Apparenty the former location near City Centre is closed, so I was directed to Bur Dubai near the Chelsea Hotel.
No sauna, nice room (not en suite) but the price was dh150. Usual is dh100: impact of rising rents? Only 2 fillies to choose from, not stunners but quite acceptable. Decent massage followed by CBJ and FS. Tipped her dh250.
OK experience but I won't be hurrying back.
As I was but a hop & skip away from the Seaview, how could I not resist a leery swig or two? Arrived at 12:30am to a heavily Filipinized but highly apt cover of U2 ("but I steel haven foun what I'm lookin for"). Place was busy but no stunners.
This joint is the only place I know in Dubai with Filipina WG's. They are not usually very attractive but there were two quite tempting 'girl next door types' who looked fresh & innocent. As usual no overt marketing, just a shy come-on smile.
As I had already unloaded my burden, I stayed until the set finished and then moseyed on home.

Rattlesnake Wednesday night
Feeling a bit depressed after the footy fiasco, so popped into the Snake hoping to improve my mood.
Well, I have never felt the need for a collective noun to describe a group of stunners, but such a word was definitely required that night. There were at least 20 I would shag at the drop of the hat. Mmm, how about a "shag of stunners".
CIS, PRC, African take your pick.
I have been visiting the Snake off & on for at least 5 years or so, and it's still the same band. They are definitely not as lively and not as good as they used to be. Perhaps they suffer from artists' angst because everyone's attention is elsewhere?

I have seen them at the York occasionally and there are reports elsewhere they are in the Imperial Suites. In fact three were arriving just as I was leaving the York last night, however I could not swear they went up to the bar. Some reports indicate these girls are heavily controlled by pimps with up front payments to third parties in the bar and curfews. This was not the case with the girl a friend of mine pulled a few weeks back; she stayed the night with him and all next day until about 10 PM. YMMV.

They were never my favorites but it must be hard. Playing 7 nights a week is pretty punishing but when there is little feedback from the audience it must get soul destroying. It’s a revelation how much better the Creek Side band play in the Music Room compared to the York.

Curious as to what time? As in how much am I missing when I go early, leave early.
To restate an oft stated "recommendation": when you're at the bar (especially if it includes an entrance fee), grab a couple of numbers if nothing else but for future use.
Thursday night: Miss T gets a phone call... Well, she wasn't lying when she said she wasn't going to the bar TONIGHT, but tomorrow was fine. After all, if you meet her outside the bar, she TOO avoids the entrance fee.
Friday night: Pitch hitter had sms'd me, asking how I was, which was sufficient to get her in the game that night. Around 11, she received a phone call, her first questions being, "Who is this? How did you get my number?" When appropriate identification codes were not passed, she terminated the call. So, if it's a passed down number, make sure you have an identifiable reference handy.
As soon as they give me their number, I always give them a missed call, to 1) verify the number, and 2) allow them to put my number in their book [no doubt under "handsum man" ].

Tons of them everywhere; of course they will be from fill-in-the-blank-istan rather than Iran, but they will most certainly market themselves as Iranian. Caveat emptor.

One other fantastic Korean BBQ place (sorry to hijack the thread guys, but just in case you fancy eating out) is Mannalands, in the same strip as the Capitol Hotel in Satwa. Really first class food - the complimentary kimchi starters, with about six different varieties, is delicious -and they also serve beers, with no pretense or subterfuge, although they have no licence.
One funny thing happened with them, which was very un-Dubai! I had family staying a few weeks ago and I wanted to take them there at about 9.00 one night. Not knowing how busy they got later in the evening, I thought I ought to call and book a table. So I called and asked if I could book a table for 4 at 9. The woman said "yeah, OK" and without another word, put the phone down! Brilliant!
