I think it's having an idea of what her market value is worth. The first 'Snake girl - her 700 quote was "never hurts to ask"; the 2nd was "I know my market value, and this is it".
Bragging rights to how low you got her for is not really something I'm interested in. As I've always said, I know what her experience is worth to me, that night, and act accordingly.

Bravo (from 12/29 post) -- keeping on the off-topic bent here, the bussed-gate experience applies to ALL the airlines, not just Goof Air. In December I flew in on the daytime Emirates flight from New York (EK 204, arriving in the morning), and they parked the plane at the farthest possible spot from the terminal (by the airshow). This is despite 5 or 6 gates being vacant. Maybe this was to quarantine us infidels. Overall it took an hour to get to the terminal, and after going thru eGate another hour to get our luggage. That happened on a Lufthansa flight too last spring. Maybe not anough gate personnel? Perhaps they are trying to Emiratise the staff and not doing so well?
Anyway, it would be nice if like in the West the calendars actually said when holidays occurred, but I realize that would put the guys who look at the moon out of business. Nevertheless, it is amazing how Dubai's modern economy can immediately revert to Saudi Arabia or Kuwait in a heartbeat (due to holidays, deaths of sheikhs). At least the radio stations all didn't revert to concurrent Koran recitals for 2 weeks this time?
Times like this are when it's good to have the little black book ready and alcohol provisions from the Duty Free on hand....

Isn't THAT the truth... one of the things I find most annoying here, it is difficult to plan in advance... Even the 1 day holidays can be shifted by the govt at the last moment to make a long weekend (nice), but no guarantee, and debatable if they'll make it Thursday off, or Sunday off...

PLENTY of time to pick and choose at the arrivals' duty free while waiting for the luggage (could THAT be their plan?). But a big difference between calling someone at 2:00am and 3:30am, and with no guarantee of exactly what time your luggage will arrive and you'll escape the airport...
For me, I was content to make it home, crash, and wait until the FOLLOWING night for a bit of "welcome back dxb" time... Just too bad that next night the bars were closed and I DIDN'T know...

the bus thing is dependant on timings and how busy the airport is, thats all. but there are peak times for sure and some airlines are not high up the priority, but I have been on ek from jfk and lhr and many places at many times and still had to bus it
ironically its quicker than walking cos they take u straight to immigration anyway
and u still have to wait for your bags
u can always get an egate card if u want
or skywards gold has it built in. or fly j or f class
i have all the above but I still prefer the physical stamp in the passport to prove beyond date when and where I was - you never know these locals might want proof one day and I cant see an e-gate card being ideal evidence in court.

TGIT, Astoria Hotel, 2:45 - 3:30pm
New Year's day, given that there were a number of bowl games on tv, only one thing to do: Banana's for their large supreme pizza. While waiting, popped into TGIT. As expected, sparse: punters (and wg's) NOT in attendence, no doubt recovering at home from the previous night's festivities. 1 african, a couple of CIS (young/hard looking), majority PRC's, and older PRC's at that.
Number of familiar faces; JSF, you'll remember FiFi and JoJo. FF ALWAYS with the smile and happy greeting. Happy to say, JJ now a pro, no longer clingy, QUICKLY gauges temperature. Did spot 1 PRC on my to-do list; I had called her last Thursday, during my phone troll... If only she hadn't lived in Deira, could have popped her from that queue... Added another new face, cute, with phone number to the to-do list. She, first time TGIT visitor, encouraged by her friends to check out TGIT, not impressed with the customer mix...
Anyway, I simply had a drink, then left to pick up a pizza. Certainly no stunners, but if I had been in the mood for some afternoon exercise, there certainly were possibilities, even if few and far between.

Games over, decided to step out, look for Miss Cappy. Early on, very sparse, mainly african wg's, with a few chinese (says more about management's misguided entrance policy than anything else).
Later on, some CIS arrived; 1 familiar OLDER face, with some likewise aged sisters. Certainly no walk of shame there, easily blend in as an older spouse. I was wondering exactly who her target audience was, what her attributes were, and how successfully delivered... Certainly has been around for awhile, so must be some attraction...
Later on, place filled up a bit, but still relatively sparse. No Cappy. Now number of africans matched by the PRC's, CIS around. Couple of PRC's I was familiar with, 1 tall, LONG hair, attractive. Bit surprised to see 1 top-of-the-line Imperial girl, Cyclone chorus material, visiting. She did stand out, and would, any place except Cyclone. At least 1 other PRC, older, intriguing in a mature sort of way... not the usual bg trolling for clients (I'm assuming she was a wg rather than a spouse waiting for hubby). Like the older CIS, I wonder who pulls them, and why, given so many younger, better looking girls around. Must be some attraction...
Again, if I had wanted company, several candidates around.
In BOTH cases, not worth a special trip, but if you're in the area...

Rattlesnake, Wednesday, 9:30 - 11:30
Late night at work, so stopped by the 'Snake. Arriving, early, the usual african majority, with a sprinking of PRC's. Still sparse at 10:30, but around 11:00, a large influx of PRC's and CIS, some very tempting.- Moonlighting PRC, legit day job. Far from a stunner, but cute, nicely shy, reasonable english, and enough hint of a legit rack that I will pay to see it unfettered; took her number.
- Familiar face; have seen this PRC many times, a number of places; the last time, with her New Year Eve's date at the atm as he stocked up. Always nice to get the discreet acknowledgement from the girl as you pass. Never any time to pull, but I WILL have to change that. Confirmed I did have her number (refreshed the face/name association).
- Another Cyclone chorus girl, with the CR, taking a low key detour for the evening. Have seen her at the 'Snake before, every now and again. Cyclone fine, but some LE presence outside, causing the girls some anxiety. Got her number; for sure, another ceiling buster, but once that line has been crossed, just gets easier (like punting itself).
- Just getting ready to leave, another girl who could work the Cyclone chorus appeared, petite, cute face, nice rack. Stepped up once more, but this time, a swing and a miss - got her name, but that was IT - the 1 word answer. OK, I'm a quick judge of climate, and this was tundra. Concerned about frostbite, quickly moved on.
But for a weeknight, I was impressed. Band still grates; dj and the trance music much nicer. Still not quite worth a special trip, but if you're passing on SZR, might be worth a quick look, especially past 11.But for a weeknight, I was impressed. Learn from MY mistakes
You know it's NOT a good sign when you're posting at 3:45AM...
Rattlesnake, Thursday, 11:00 - 11:30
Given the arrival times I'd witnessed earlier this week, decided I'd go a bit later (for me, anyway). Arriving, 'Snake was crowded, poor M/F ratio. Given the layout, difficult to see. Many africans (with the usual GRABBING hands), number of CIS, PRC's... unfortunately, none of the PRC's I'd seen earlier in the week. Now, it being Thursday, I did NOT expect to see the Cyclone refugees, but certainly some of the others...
Haven't been to Cyclone for a couple of months, but am sure if I walked in THERE, would see a number of the same faces. York in its heyday - always a set of familiar faces for me to choose from. Imperial, the same. Certainly Seaview, I know I can COUNT on a 1/2 dozen potentials to be there, besides new faces. Maybe I just don't frequent the Snake enough to recognize the regulars; maybe the regulars don't appeal to me, so don't register. Anyway, looking grim.
Saw 1 that I couldn't remember if she was on the to-do list or the done-not-remarkable list. Regardless, given the crowd, difficult to maneuver close to her, and she did not move in my direction, so perhaps it was the latter list... Did see Miss Friday, whose option has not been renewed yet, though I will say she was the best looking girl in there (for me, anyway). Later, several sms's and a missed call from her, wanting to know why I was now disinterested and had not called her.
Well, I was busy. Deciding there was no future at the 'Snake, decided to cut my loses and head to Seaview for the band's 2nd set. Like I said, can always count on a number of options to be in residence. 1/2 way across the patio, I see Miss Familiar Face and her running partner, the same 2 who had wanted a double last night. Running partner literally grabs me in a hug, making the same offer. Miss Familiar simply says, "I go your house." She is cute... I stalled a bit... certainly for off-peak, a certainty, but on a Thursday... You know, once you have your mind set on checking out a venue... and there were some KNOWN quality selections at Seaview.
Wiggled free from the hug, truthfully saying I was not interested in a double. Her "2 ladies, same price 1 lady", from experience, is NOT 2-for-1, but 2*1. I said I was just going to go on home, sleep (not specifying any intermediate steps...)
Miss Familiar repeated her request to go with me, but I declined. They walked towards the 'Snake, I took a step towards the car. But then decided, if not now, when? (Never said I was quick on decisions.) Might as well scratch 1 off the to-do list. I was there, she was there... Caught up with them at the 'Snake's door, just as they were digging into their purses for their id's (and entrance fee). Asked for a price quote; should have heard the 1st alarm bell when she questioned "all night?" as if this was NOT the norm. Her "how much you pay?" not working for me, but her "500" acceptable - I really wasn't that interested in haggling over a 100. 500 acceptable, and since it was her ASKING price, figured it should ensure me a good time (ha, ha, right...). Both wanted to go, but when I made it clear it was Miss Familiar, and ONLY Miss Familiar, the other girl backed off, bid us farewell, and headed into 'Snake. We headed home.
Back home, in the bedroom, while getting undressed, it was "pay money first". Whoa, Nellie. That WAS a surprise, given, like I said, I've seen her in a number of venues ('Snake, TGIT...) My "I ALWAYS pay in morning" not working; she giving me the "this 1st time, I not know you...", which, strangely  enough, did not seem to register when I reversed its direction. The obvious "I'm a businesswoman..." statement should have been a STRONG clue that GFE it won't be...
Started pulling my clothes back on, saying we'd simply go back to the bar (now 12:30). She was "don't be angry, don't be angry"... Should have followed my first instinct, but then reconsidered, she did seem to have potential, and was friendly. Fine, back to the living room, grabbing the wallet, unfortunately WITHOUT the presence of mind to follow my own advice - pay half down, half later. Got the 500 bill, back to the bedroom, on the table. She was again with the "don't be angry", but not exactly conducive to a fun time.
OK, a minor hickup. In to take a shower; returning, she had pocketed the money. Fine, just another alarm beginning to sound. Now it was "you have condom?, you have condom? I have condom in purse..." A simple Yes did NOT quiet the insistent question, so pulled out the BOX to show her I was well-stocked. Not so much I'm worried about YOU, babe, but I take the steps to protect MYSELF. Round 1, oral, bbbj, but request to not CIM... My bad, I had not specified menu, interested in HER experience, WHATEVER that might be. Now, I was learning...
She had claimed to "know massage", and asked if I had experienced "foot massage". Her massage, body AND feet, all of 20 minutes (previous Miss T, 20 minutes was for ONE FOOT...) Now, round 2... you can fake the foreplay moans, but if the body is not responding, not that difficult to tell... her attitude more of a "I'll lay her until you're ready..." But I'm persistent (aka stubborn), and eventually, there would be no need for any artificial lube. Not quite the GFE, but... it just seemed we were out-of-sync SLIGHTLY, you know, timing off... Couldn't quite figure it out, as she had seemed so promising...
Now, to sleep. Would be interesting to see her attitude to a morning wake-up... Instead, time for the final scene: "I'm cold; my feet cold, you have a/c on?" No, a/c is not on; I can't help your circulation problems. Actually went and got her another blanket. "I'm cold..." I asked if she wanted some socks, (made me laugh - one of the FEW times - when she said, "you want sex?" ). Pulled out some wool socks... not really a surprise when she declined... "I'm cold, maybe I no sleep tonight; maybe if I no sleep, you no sleep..."
OK, I can see the handwriting on the wall... "You want go home?" WHAT a surprise: "You no be angry, OK?" Fat chance, babe. Angry at myself for not seeing this coming, not taking her back to the bar when things started to go off-track, not thinking of the installment payment plan. "Get up, get dressed, NOW." "Maybe I sick, I no want you to get sick, too cold here, I go home..." You got THAT right...
It was not that out-and-out rip, the "my gf need key" so I can go pull another customer rip, but more the wish to cut our time short, get back to her own place...
Judging the now FRIGID climate, she started to back-track, saying perhaps she could sleep here, that it was MY request for her to leave, that I should not get angry..." (Note: NO reason for her to fear for her personal safety with ME; the money had been given to her, it was hers, NO attempt by me to unilaterally adjust payment - just a guarantee of no REPEAT business). After all, she was correct, it was MY decision that she was now leaving...
"You take me home?" Yea, perhaps in some alternate, parallel universe... Told her she could take a taxi... Now, I'm not the TOTAL asshole; I just don't throw her out the door to fend for herself. I walk her to the end of the street, pointing the 20 meters to the MAIN road, "taxi, no problem." And, because it was now 2:30, I did keep her in sight until a taxi stopped, rather than a private car... To her credit, she did not add insult to injury by asking for any taxi money...
Lessons re-learned:- Just because you THINK it should be a good time, it won't necessarily be so. When the chemistry is missing...
- While a BEAMING smile can be an indication of a willing partner, no guarantees; sometimes, it's just advertising.
- Sometimes, things DON'T turn around, staying off-track, out-of-sync.
- While requests for "Pay Before" may be legit (from her point of view), take the ST now, LT in morning payment plan... If THAT is unacceptable, then:
- Learn to listen to your first reaction... sometimes, that IS the wisest decision.
- Remember that a number of SMALL warning signs can point to BIG problems later...
Angry? No. Actually, a bit disappointed, as she was one of those I really thought had potential, not as a starter, but certainly as a relief pitcher. Not value for money, but it was MY decision to ask her to leave, sooner rather than later. She was right, I would not get a good night's sleep if she stayed.
Just seemed ironic: Friday's Cyclone chorus girl, who I thought might be problematic, was a better time than I expected, no problems whatsoever, and responsive. This girl, who I obviously bet would be a good time (by acquiescing to pay before), was NOT. We just didn't get along (no doubt, back at her apt, she must be telling her roommates about the CRAZY punter...)
Oh well, now I know - 500 the price of this night's education, and I did get one off the to-do list. After all, there is always tomorrow...
