I have just come back from Switzerland and the bottled Singha over there had an alcohol content of 5%. I live in the UK and have checked through my bins  and the empty Singha bottles show 6% alcohol content (the larger bottles).
Have done a search and Singha UK is saying the alcohol content is now only 5%.
Have I gone into a time warp or something, because I could swear it has always been 6%.
I appreciate some of you guys don't do Singha, but I am really interested to find out what the official take is on this. Is it 5% for Europe, are there new grades being produced, or have I completely lost the plot ?
(I have tried to use the search engine to find this answer on the forum, but Singha has too many results to go through - so apologies if this has been covered elsewhere).

same as chang, in Thailand it is about 6%, in the Uk it is 5% and taste a lot better too.

They quietly dropped the alcohol percentage back in or around March 2007 in order to avoid (as rumor has it) some tax on the higher alcohol percentage. Took a few months for all the stores, bars, etc. to be depleted of the 6% stock (in Thailand) but now I can only find the 5% stuff here in Thailand.
They continue to produce the 6% Singha but only for export. I think the 6% stuff tastes better.

Local - what is it with expats and why they hate Singha so much ? And to say that if someone is drinking Singha they are a "newbie tourist" is a bit of a generalisation is it not ?
It's a bit like saying anyone who drinks Heineken is a Swiss or German pervert with a moustache, beer gut, stupid out of fashion clothes and curly hair.

Many years back, the alcohol percentage of Singha beer was variable. It was said that it was depending on the then German brewmaster's mood. It could hit 8%.

I like Singha beer and I've lived here for 2 years, not exactly a newbie. I also like Tiger, Heineken and Chang. Or even Beer Lao. It just depends on the "taste" I'm thirsty for, and I change as the night goes along. In my opinion, Singha=bubbly, filling ; Tiger = crisp, less bubbly ; Heineken=consistent but somehow syrupy ; Chang = malty, strong ; Beer lao = gassy!!

just a bit off topic,
I was happy to see Singha Light on my last trip, it wasnt bad...I never saw it in my resident days in LOS....in fact, thinking about it, I dont really recall ever buying any "light" beer...
I am not a huge beer drinker, but since giving up the hard stuff (Ketel One) and wine being rather "pang" in LOS (for decent stuff) I might be throwing a few of those back on the next holiday

well, to me it tastes like shit. I can only think of a handful of people who live here full-time that drink it and they are kind of weird people anyhow
doesn't Singha give you horrible hangovers ?, I know it does me
and all those generalizations that you brought up are ones that you can realize the first time you spot a person, except for maybe what nationality they are, which usually can be guess accurately after hearing them speak
