i was looking for the nana complex and wandered into an area straight out of streets of mogadishu or nairobi.  I didn't know there were so many black thais (natualized?).

Maybe you went north (odd sois) of Sukhumvit Ground Zero (crossing Soi 3/4) and ended up in the 3+ sois and subsois with its African and Arab community... Not very popular amongst the Thai though... Blacks even less than the Arabs (money?)
Nana Entertainment Plaza (NEP) is like 150 ft south of Sukhumvit on Soi 4, opposite of Nana hotel and carpark...
Come and have a look at the NEP closing time rush at about 1am... It's like the earth has opened and spit out an army of lost souls which are already doomed but yet surface from hell for another day in Krung Thep...
... or is that an army of enlightened souls which are already redeemed but yet descend from heaven for another day in Krung Thep...
Whatever, I'm a happy trooper amongst those whenever I'm in BK 
Unfortunately there are not many black girls working LOS... Only a few to be spotted in that area and even less freelancing in the well known p4p or party-people venues...

Nana Complex(the shopping center) is opposite the African area at Soi 3.
These are not Thais. Many of them live here. Don't quite know about the status of their visas. Expect a lot of them live on expired visas.
Other areas where you find masses of them: Pratunam (many involved in trading garments and precious stones) and my apartment (Miami on Petchburi Soi 43/1).
Each family has dozens of kids... probably don't have a TV

There are raids in the Pratunam area on regular basis.
But in my apartment, I guess approx 50-60% are non Thais and range from Nepalese to Nigerians. but in all these years I've never seen a raid.
Guess the owner of the apartments has a good relationship with the men in brown. Although I see motorized police regularly checking the books.

The police ar emore concerned with keeping tabs on people so when they do f*** up they can be found easily... you ever notice how with the mess that is Bangkok the police always find the crimminal? They have a much better grasp on things than we think.
The reason they do not crack down on them is because many are involved in activities where the MIB skim a bit of Baht..... no matter if it part of the rent, or whatever....
