All flights to bangkok from UK still operating so as long as they are then I'll be on my way.
If it comes to gangs of red shirts or govt troops cruising the suk in their pickups with heavy machine guns mounted on their decks then I'll take my chance. In the past these things have blown over. Like with any mob they usually dispearse, especially when they have to go back to work.
If they dont disperse then there really is a major problem(as if its not already).
This is desperate news for Thaialnd, its become almost my 2nd home. I love the country and those thais that I know.
How big is the red shirt mob? Is it Thaksin rent a crowd or a growing mob baying for blood, loot and vengance on those that have built up business and success.
I'm not au fait with THai politics. THe current PM is wanted out by yellow shirts who say he is a puppett of Thaksin. So why are Thaksin's supporters trying to oust him.
If PM is Thaksin's puppet why is there a warrant for Thaksin's arrest?
I go to LOS for business which involves spending thousands of dollars on Thai products. The p4p is part of the perk.

I liked your reply to 38's worries. Too often the situation in any troubled place appears dangerous to people coming in from elsewhere. Earthquake in Italy. Oh, is it safe to go there ? Riots in Bangkok. Oh is it safe to go there ? And so on. Fact is, the locals continue to live there, work there. They are not fleeing the place, there is no exodus. If millions continue to live there, what's my fear as a traveller? Just that in the few days that I am going to be there my movements may be restricted, thereby possibly jeopardising my time-bound plans. But, given 38's specific sanook itinerary, this should not be a problem. Unless, like you said, he wears a red shirt with a toxic image on it and then joins a group of similarly attired folks.

Yeah, (western) people panic a lot for no reason. They see a news item on the other side of the world and they are afraid to leave their own house.
Get some perspective. Yes, something is going on their. But as long as the militairy keeps their heads cool and violence to a absolute minimum, things are relatively safe for us non involved.
I think that when these kinds of riots would happen in a "safe" country as Russia or China the bodies would be stacked 10 meters high on the side of the road by now.
When that happens it is time to get really worried. But As I said Thailand is nowhere near the worst country on earth Somalia. And Bangkok is nowhere near downtown Bagdad. And Pattaya is nowhere near the mountains of Afganistan.
So use your brain, be carefull not to wonder in to mobscenes and have a fun time. This is not a people's riot, but a staged riot by a handfull of political hotheads. The common thai people have no interest in who is in charge, they only care for the baht in YOUR pocket.
