Not only is Thailand closed during October, but if you come right at the end of September, then starting on October 1st you will kicked out of your hotel and have to sleep on the street with the dogs and the beggers. You will not be able to leave the country since the airport is closed in October.

The rainy season begins in June and lasts until October; the average temperature is 84°F (29°C) with 90% humidity. While the rainy season brings frequent showers, it's rare for them to last for a whole day or for days on end. Daily showers will come in torrents, usually in the late afternoon or evening for maybe 3 or 4 hours -- many times bringing floods. Trekking in the north is not recommended during this time.

I don't agree with the weather assessment from the website you quoted. October can go either way (end of rainy season, or start of cool season). Depends on the year.
One advantage of the rain is that it washes the scum off the streets and cleans the dirty air.

Oh yes Thailand is closed to everything except all the normal activities and:
Sunflower festival
Grape harvesting and wine making up in the hills.
Some of the wine is quite nice but has the same tax as imported wine.
Trips can be had round the vinaries and tastings are available and there are many events on for the sunflower festival.
But of course nothing else really happens especially if you are not there on the 30 Oct.
Of course I am sure like the rest of the thread this may or may not help but at least I can say have a nice time.

October has 31 days (just checked the Thai calender).
Donrels you are coming for 27 days. I sure hope the 4 days you will not be here, are not the ones with all the festivities in Sukhumvit, Nana & SC.
Those 4 days are the only 4 days of the year when all BG's do not have their periods. In celebration of the 4 non- period days the girls only charge 50% of the normal price and some go as low as 70% off the normal price.
Let us know what days you will be here and I will tell you if you are going to be lucky. Oh BTW, to make up for the cheap 4 days, the other 27 days, prices are doubled.
This is what expatchuck told me or was it Tyler Durdin....not sure now.

October is also the month wherein a lot of girls who work in many of the bars take time off to go home, and the bar owners bring in ladyboys to fill in the vacancies as temps while the TGs are away. After Oct 31 the TGs return to the bars and the LBs are let go until the following October.
If LBs are your thing then October can be a prime month for action.
