I beg your pardon, but quite a few people this thread have stated that one should never take an antibiotic as a precaution. So you are wrong about that.
I am more than qualified and capable of deciding for myself whether I will research medical information and whether I will act that on research. In several cases, I have refused to take medicine prescribed to me by doctors in the US based on research I have done. Thousands of people die each year because of drug interactions that doctors don't know about, or when they don't ask the right questions about what other medicine one is taking.
I was hoping that you would stop the hypocrisy and say the same things about Viagra, Cialas, etc, not being used without a doctor's prescription. But I am not going to hold my breath on that one.
For myself, I always follow the laws of the country I am in with regard to prescription medicine, and that is always true when I am in Thailand.

BEWARE OF ANY MEDICAL ADVICE YOU GET FROM SOME GUY ON THE INTERNET, ESPECIALLY MINE.
Biggest problem I see with self medication besides taking the wrong drug is not taking it LONG ENOUGH. If I remember correctly 10 days is the usual length of treatment. Most people will start to feel better after a few days and then stop taking the medicine.
Talk to your family MD and see what he says. Go with his advice.

That is generally true for many infections (7-10 days regimin). However the regimine for gonorrhea is usullly a single large dose. You can read about that here:

But even for other infections, with Zithromax (unlike many other antibiotics) the dosage is usually for 5 days maximum, depending on the infection:

Don't worry to much Paddy. There are 2 kinds of people : smart people and stupid people.......... and then there is Mr. Alan.
Calling him stupid would be an insult to stupid people.
The one and only reason for Mr. Alan to be on this board (and probably many others) is to show-off how smart he is. He must be doing about 50 yaba pills a day, because he thinks that vomitting all these little facts over us ignorant people will make him look like Einstein.
He just forgot about the universal truth that only stupid people THINK they know everything and smart people KNOW they know nothing.
I suggest we give this man his own forum. The A forum. The A of Alan ofcourse. We restrict him to this forum and if we are to lazy to google something ourselves we go and ask the oracle on the A forum. And if he gives 1 wrong answer he is banned to the Z forum. (From A to Z in one click, that sounds good  )
With the second wrong answer he gets banned for life ofcourse. (Pitty he is far to long winded to check all his shit  )
I will give this idea a headstart by asking the first question. What are all the names for snow that the eskimo's have? And I want a detailed description of all the differences.
So that should keep him a while from saying stupid things.

Well the answer for us is very simple. We who have been there will say : "I should!" But for you it will be very difficult.
We can not give you a risk analysis of YOUR situation. That is totaly up to you. Is your wife worth a few weeks of fun in the sun? Well if she looks like Broken Legs avatar, then I would say jump on that plane and dont even think of buying a return ticket.
If it is pure sex you want, try it on your own streetcorner with some whore, that should be easy. Thailand is more then just sex. Atleast to me. It is about the mentality of the people, the warmth, the friendship you can have with a girl. Things you can easily mistake for LOVE. (The same goes for the girls by the way.)
For others here it can be something else, like the massages or the temples or whatever. Did I mention it was cheap???
So maybe you should assess the things you HAVE, and the things you WANT. And then look at which one outweighs the other.
And if you know what you want, you should maybe ask us if that is available and at what cost.
But one thing I know for sure!
You WILL regret the rest of your life the fact that you did NOT go.
And you run the RISK that you will regret the rest of your life the fact that you DID go.

I don't really have much to add to this I think most everything I could think of has already been posted.
I am not married but will say Thailand kind of ruined me 
I would say just go to a clinic and tell them your worries about what you have been up to and let them decide what is best as far as taking meds go.
With the rest of the info it was a good read. I also thought it was a rather good post with some very good replies. I thought of this thread while reading it.
Has this forum gone past its sell-by date?
Some threads yes but the first few pages of this post had some very good info in it for a guy thinking about his first trip while married.

I think I am reasonably intelligent, but I make no claims to omnipotent knowledge. That is why when I want to know the answer to a question I consult with primary sources (as opposed to hearsay information), such as the information published by the pharmaceutical company that makes the drug.
I am not sure why you find the posting of information from the pharmaceutical company and other relevant medical sources so upsetting. Perhaps you need some anger management therapy.
