It now seems like most Thailand Banks charge 150 Baht for withdrawals which is pretty rich, considering Aussie Banks only charge about half this for Foreign Card withdrawals.

RE: NoHomesteder's story.... I had this happen in Manila in 2002. I contacted immediately contacted the bank in question and also informed my bank in the US.
It took about 10 days to clear up the issue but my bank refunded the money to my account after checking with the PI bank.
The key here is to notify the bank who owns the ATM as soon as possible. They will note the time of your transaction so that when they balance the ATM at the end of the day they can match your claim against the ATM's logs and the cash balance in the ATM's issuance box.
However if you wait until later you may find that it is too late for the Bank to audit the ATM and confirm that you lost your money...

I put my AmEx card into a Kasikorn bank ATM last Friday morning when I was hungover like a DOG & then didn't bother taking the card as I was paying the BG who I'd spent the night with
it sucked up the card & then I couldn't contact the bank by phone
I got their number, but when calling it sounded like someone had left the thing off the hook
so I go by there first thing Monday morning & this chick takes down my number & tells me their other number & says the card should be retrieved from the ATM by tomorrow afternoon
The ATM machine was not at an actual bank branch. It was out on the sidewalk near where I'm staying
so, yesterday afternoon I try calling them on the new number she gave me, no f***er answers it
I call & call, no answer, & the original number I got from BKK Kasikorn still isn't working either
Finally I get BKK Kasikorn on the phone again & they patch me thru to the local office somehow
Then I'm told that if it was an AmEx the contractor who collects the cards from the machines would have returned it to AmEx instead of to the local Kasikorn office
That would have been useful information to have learned on Monday morning ! ! ! ! !
I could have probably gotten a new card issued & to me within the week if I'd known that.

The worst f***in thing about the ATM s in Thailand
is that they give the cash first and the card as last.
In europe its completely the other way around.
At least 2 x I have taken the cash and horny bastard that I am totally forgot to wait for the card.
The first time was on sukomvit by the Landmark I wandered in there a few days later and they handed it over to me. The 2nd time in pattaya I was not so lucky. Had to ask my old man to wire me some money which he begrugingly did. Now I bring 3 or more cards + cash
never 1 card like I did in those days. The 150 baht who cares everytime I order a beer in NP I am getting shafted for more. I mean if I was that bothered I would buy a 6 pack at 7 eleven or stay at home.

Local Yokul, in my experience, if you forget your card in an ATM in Thailand, just write it off and go get a new one asap. Cancel it if you like and say it was lost. As your experience shows, it's too much hassle to try to get it back.

LY, I've always maintained this simple rule, credit cards should never be inserted into ATM machines. First of all, you get charged the cash advance fee for withdrawing money and you don't get any points for it. I don't know the PIN number for my credit card and have never bothered requesting it.
As for ATM cards, have as many as possible.

I dont know that this has mentioned here before or not...The banks or exchange boots does not take older version of 100 USD bills (guess this also apply to other bills)...They only take the current version of the bills.
Also, with current version 100 bills, OUB does not take the one that has year "2003" print on it. The teller could not explain it to me in English, I still do not know why....The other banks or exchange boots will take 100 USD bill with year "2003" on it.

Was with a few friends in Phuket recently & one got money from a Bank ATM late at night & yes forgot his card. Went back next morning (Sunday Morning) & although the Bank wasn't open the Exchange Booth in front of the Bank was, he ask the cute lady if she could help & she produces a Key & walks over to the ATM, opens up a small cover (no access to the Money mind you) and there are 3 or 4 cards from the night before, she asks my mate some questions, name on card & bank etc & then hands over the card, no drama!
The trap is the Card almost always is returned after the Money unlike my Western Countries! A trick to watch out for particularly if in an inebriated state!
