I sometimes have dreams where I fly 24 hours and visit the in-laws up north for 3 or 4 days and go to BKK and spend like 10 days wasted with my mates and never bang a chick....I realize, in the dream, jesus herman chrysler, I have 12 hours left and need to get laid at least once....it's a horrible, horrible dream to have 
Point is, do both and bang as many as you can

Hi Lustyman, I was on my own in BKK, sounds like you may be as well. You have to be aware of certain traps like avoiding taxi drivers at the entrance to Soi Cowboy etc, and it's also less fun prowling about on your own.
Luckily, first day I tried a pool hall at Times Square just to have somewhere neutral to be, but it turned out to be full of easy to know guys, and after a few social games and a chat to some of the wiser ex-pats I soon teamed up with guys willing to show me the places to go (and the ropes). This turned out to be a much better experience for me.
The bar was called Hustlers, Times Square is a small mall type building just down from Soi8 on Sukhumvit Road, (go down the steps from street level).
Steve the manager is one of the best blokes I ever met in BKK, and 'old Bill' will tell you all you need to know for a Tiger or two

Remember, if you're going to a late night club like Mixx, Insomnia or Spicy, you can hop into them, and tell them that you're not paying the fare. They will gladly take you there.

@atl I am usualy quite happy full of beer by then, relaxed and end up having a laugh with them, I just say I already have a woman and they leave me to chat. The Thai's also seem very good at facial recognition, and once they have tried you, they leave you alone the next time, same goes for the suit sales guys too.
Quite a skill of theirs, and very handy for us streetwalkers
