interesting comments. I read the book last year also and thought it a good read. doesnt change anything about my attitude on relationships with thai girls.
I read it as someone elses experience and their difficulties from their own perspectives. then again I have no intention of getting serious with any tg.
Something tells me that a girl half my age is never going to be in love with me if I am poor and hit hard times. I havent met any farangs that have hit hard times and their tilac is out hustling to support them, unlike the great willingness to support their thai bf's.
maybe as a newbie ive yet to learn different.

but the tone used in the English version just rubbed me the wrong way, did not like it at all, and I think the male author needs to grow some balls

Well, then your issue is with the male author, who (if I interpret you well) just goes along with the 'Thai way'.

But, isn't the whole point of the book to have the English side explain the 'Thai way' in a matter that a farang understands, and the Thai side explain the 'Farang Way' in a matter for the TG to understand - consequently, both sides present the other side in an ethnographic manner -- and hopefully both sides can learn an understanding for the other side's idiosyncrasies (at least that is how I interpreted the book, and that is how several of my friends interpreted it as well - and it helped them)

maybe we can each learn something from it, but we are certainly not going to use it as a road map, as the authors suggest

I really don't see where you get that the book presents a roadmap, as it is, if anything, a guidelines to navigating cultural differences, on both sides of the fence. As such, I believe, it works very well.

Surely, though, it's quite possible for someone to mis-use the book as a roadmap, but there's no 100% solution for everyone. It's more like the 'Pirate Code' - a suggestion...

ahem,,,

on the COVER of the book it says :

A Road Map for Thai-Western Relationships

now when I walk around with TGs smiling at me, I wonder if they are thinking about how I can support them financially, i.e. X-Ray vision into my wallet

they got a little too intense on the BG aspect of the thing too, there's whole sections I would tear out if it would go unnoticed by the TGF

don't need her thinking that my Mother will be secretly asking herself if she's an ex-BG

just harshed my mellow, and I'm going to tape those pages about BGs together right now, so TGF doesn't read them, LOL

and NO, I'm NOT kidding

BTW, they have a Thailand Fever forum

You're talking about the publisher's caption to sell the book, I'm talking about what they are saying INSIDE the book - either way, it doesn't matter. Seems to me like everyone that reads it, has their own interpretation.

Maybe it should be called 'A Bible for Thai-Western Relationships'
