Just arrived in Bkk 3 days ago and went to Pantip to stock up on various application CD's. Nothing but cheap stuff on the shelves, nothing useful. The same was the case at Fortune, though I did manage to get some of the stuff I wanted after talking to the guys in one of the shops. They said the current state of affairs had been in effect for a couple of days and they would expect it to last at least another week or so. Anyone have any other information on this? Any new places to go?

Go South,
Go North to the Fortune Tower, and go to the top 2 floors. DVDs and Software there. Just lurk around the SW and DVD shops and they will ask you.
Take a taxi there, and note where to get one for the trip back.

newbies not finding stuff is always funny - I know, I used to be one.
Went there during APEC, when everything was cracked down - still found plenty of DVD movies.
Find a store that has movie posters on the walls; talk to the vendor; flash some money; say "DVD Movie". You'll get some.
Other option, just go with a TGF, and have her explain what you want.
I have a regular booth in Panthip - always get what I want (even during APEC - just needed to take a slight trip)

I may be a "newbie" to this board, but odds are pretty good that I have lived here ("here" being LOS, not Bkk) a fair bit longer than you have, so don't jump to conclusions right away, OK? When I said I arrived in Bkk 3 days ago, it was on a domestic flight...
I DO know how to find stuff, I just wanted to know what the current score is, as I find this sneaking around to get what you want is somewhat annoying. Anyway, how would "jerk-off movements" get me the latest version of Adobe Premiere, I wonder?
The sitaution seems to be better at MBK by the way. They have the stuff on display so you can browse through it.

You'll have to ask FastMover about the details - he gets off on weird stuff, but he seems to use a weird jerk-off code in order to make himself understood to the vendors - or maybe he just pretends that's the disk he wanted

That maybe so, but I think I'll stop getting you your stuff. It's already bad enough being seen with you making those handmotions, but then having to repeat them to tell your vendor what you want really doesn't work for me. Half the time they give me Merchant Ivory DVDs...
