Mick - some AV's will detect some keygens as having a virus/trojan even if they don't have one. That being said, you still have to be careful. Can't do much about it at Pantip unless you know the vendor well, but if you are using something like rapidshare you can look at the user comments and see if they liked the product. YMMV.

Years ago, there was an Adobe disk with all their software with a virus that attempted to flash the system bios and ruin your computer (back then it was a lot harder to fix a completely hosed bios than in newer machines). They wrote the virus for the most common types of motherboards, but fortunately it could not flash mine. I am convinced that Adobe is deliberately planting the viruses.

I visited Pantip Plaza last night and found that the place is run-down and that many shops had closed down.... due to poor service ?
Where else would you recommend to shop for computer accessories and DVDs, VCDs and CDs ?

Pity about Panthip - I think it has less to do with 'poor service', but more with the usual problem of Thailand -- lack of upkeep and inability to maintain a going concern.

Last night? What time was it? Perhaps you were there a little too late. I was there to buy a laptop two weeks ago, and it was packed with people and shops were opened. I don't bother with DVDs and CDs anymore, except for blanks, so I can't really comment on those.

I agree with BK. I was there several times last month and it was packed with few if any stores closed.
If you are looking for something "generic" (i.e., something that numerous stores will carry), start at the top and work down. The cheapest prices tend to be higher up.

It was about 6.00 pm to about 8.00 pm.... at about 7.45 pm many shops were pulling down their shutters to close for the day... didn't find anything worthwhile to buy except for 3 blank DVDs

That's not the best time to visit Panthip Plaza. Get there in the early afternoon. Late morning would be the best since traffic is a lot easier as well. Now, if you want to see a crowd, go there on Saturdays or Sundays!

Huh? Wait a second? How long have you been living in Bangkok?
I don't even live there, and know that anytime after 6:00pm, the plaza is in shutdown mode, and is pretty much done and closed up around 7ish.
Who goes shopping around that time in Bangkok? Fortune Town is not much different.
You don't get out much, do you?
