I go to a place that was recommended to me by a local Thai that gets his suits there, and I HIGHLY recommend too. Ask for P'Keng, she is a very nice elderly lady that will take care of you. they are not pushy at all and will treat you very well. Depending on the material you pick, a good suit should be pretty affordable. I chose 120wt (I think) and got a nice 4 button suit for 4,000 bht and a 3 button for 3,500bht. Test the material (it is hanging on the walls in rolls) by scrunching it with you hand and seeing how long it takes to straighten out and unwrinkle itself. I dont know what the going rate is but I am extremely happy with my suits. I also had some pants made there and had some shirts altered. There are lots of advertisements that you will see in magazines for 2 suits, pants, 5 shirts, etc all for 2,000bt (or so) but I cant vouch for the quality. At this place, I can definitley vouch for the quality and service. The suits should take them about 2-4 days to make but they can rush, dry clean, and deliver to your hotel at no extra charge. Here is the address, tell her your friend (you can call me Tyler, she wont remember my real name anyway) from Hawaii (she should remember this) recommended her shop. Here it is... World Group ltd (on right hand side going towards the Shangri-La). 1302 - 4 New Road (Charoen Krung Rd) Bangrak, BKK, Thailand 10500 (02-234-4799) Chok-dee!

You get what you pay for.. the better the fabric, the better the suit and the more expensive.. Bottom price would be about US$100, but if you want a really good suit, be prepared to pay more like $200 .. If you wear them a lot, the better ones are worth the money as they wear better and look better after repeated wearing.. If you only wear them now and then, the cheaper suit is fine .. and you can't come close in the USA price wise.. An off the rack "good" suit, that is altered to maybe fit almost as well as the custom suit will cost you $300 up.. really good quality $500 up ... blue blazers are another good item.. more like $75-100, really nice fit, sharp looking and compare to US $250 and more ..

Agree with OakToad, "you get what you pay for" and thats not just with suits! 555. Also, forgot to add that I got a discount because I was with my Thai friend who is a repeat customer at her shop. My suits probably would have run me 6,000 to 7,000 bht if I went in alone. The suits are still holding up well, but then again, I live in Hawaii and only get to wear them when I have to work elsewhere. All things considered, even 8,000bht ($200) is a ridiculously cheap amount of money for a custom tailored suit.

What will most affect the price is the quality of fabric and the method of making it. Quality is everything in my opinion, and you have to be prepared to pay for it even in comparative BKK terms. A quality bespoke in London would run at least 1500 UK Pounds. You could probably get the equivalent in BKK for 600 USD. Good bespoke can be made for you in BKK, but they are not something to rush - that is a key point - and you have to know what you want before you go in. Bear in mind that bespoke is different, and better, than just made to measure. Think about it, and research the styles and details. Also, you do need several fittings. Things can be done quickly, or they can be done right. Also you can't get good buttons in Thailand. Get them replaced when you get home. Poor detailing destroys the look. For fabric, the best producers are Ermenegildo Zegna or Loro Piana.

I just finished a quick research around some Suk. tailors (Esquire, Ambassador, Loius', Mona's, Narin) - and it seems that the going rate for a 3-piece-suit (Jacket, vest, trousers) made out of an acceptable fabric (cashmere wool) lies between 4300 and 6000 Baht. Two fittings and 3-4 days for the making appear to be standard. Narin seems to position themselves a little bit more upmarket with a suit price of 17.000B for cashmere wool and 24.000B for mohair fabric. They also require at least 3 fittings and 4-5 days for the making. The quality should be better then, but I cannot tell you how much. Since I got a recommendation for Esquire, I chose them and collected the finished suit today. Quality and fitting are good, and I would say that the suit is comparable to 200-250 Euro suits back home. I paid a total of 7100B including additional trousers, silk tie and 3 shirts.

I'm very happy with a cashmere suit I got from Suny on Silom this spring. $100 USD, included a shirt & 2 pair of trousers. Still have some Thai Silk suits I bought on Silom Rd. 11 years ago, but can't remember the name of the tailor. Paid $200-250 each, but they really get you noticed, and are still holding up very well. Also, got an incredible silver Thai Silk shirt there for $60. I used to wear it with an Italian wool suit I paid $1700 for in the states. I was never complimented on the suit, but had numerous people tell me the shirt was awesome. Nearly needed sunglasses to look at it.

Does anyone know a tailor that has Fabrics from Ermenegildo Zegna or Loro Piana in his Portfolio ? All the ones I contacted say they don't have them (but have other fabrics from Italy, UK, etc.). Thanks, Latrell

siguy, everyone I know personally who bought a suit told me the following: you can see that there is a difference between a suit made in bkk and a boss from europe. material-wise and how it is made. i dont know what you are looking for. buying quality suits from boss from the factory outlet in my homecountry is alot more value for my money than some second hand suit from los. instead of buying suits, buy long and short arm business shirts. they are great quality and value. cheers el gringo loco
