thai reading/writing is seriously overrated!!!
I recently did a 240hour intensive (plenty of homework on top out of class!!), but in the end I never learnt all the f***in double or even triple duplicate uncommon consonants & even the ones I did memorize & manage decent speed of writing/reading couple of months later with no more (intense) homework done I almost forgot most of it!!!

worthless? surely not I now have good basis should I ever wanna improve but really yes speaking/listening is as easy as they say with few/limited grammar & simple/short sentences, but the writing system seriously is so incomplete/outdated & with so many exceptions that the 'rules' is hopeless at least the teachers can't explain half of them even the 'native english/thai' ones

well - at least now I know I'm free to 'choose' how to spell my name or any other 'translated thai' as I wish & regardless how I do it no thai will ever pronouce it correct

cheers!

240 hours!!! Damn! That's a lot of time spent on reading and writing.

Well, the Thai language does have limited sounds that it can create due to its language rules. So, tough luck trying to get them to pronounce your name correctly. However, I always like a challenge, so PM me your name, and I'll see if I can write your name in Thai.
